If you could live 1000 years or get a ship that traveled faster than light, which would you prefer?

This is a theoretical question, of course.

I'd prefer to live 1000 years depending on the quality of life that is.

Theoretically, couldn't you live a thousand years if you were traveling at the speed of light?

Yep. In "earth years," maybe, not "space years." If you could travel for, say, a year at a speed very close to the speed of light, you would live, as far as time that you perceive, one year, but several years would have passed on earth. Kind of like waking up out of a coma, thinking a year has passed, but discovering that your newborn child is now in elementary school.

Even then, while traveling, you would not be the same person. Everything slows down, body functions, etc., while you speed up.

Problem is that mass is not constant. So, the faster you go, the more mass you have. Not to be confused with weight. We really couldn't go the speed of light anyway (sorry, Star Trek) because it would take infinite mass (requiring infinite energy) to propel it that fast.

So I'll take the thousand years.

Want to live longer? Move to the beach. Or any place at sea level. Time literally actually passes a little, teeny bit slower there, compared to life in a high altitude city. OK, so you wouldn't notice. But, hey, I'll take every nanosecond I can get.

Or you could tunnel to the heart of the earth. Time really slows down there. But, you'd be a little too hot to notice that, either.

Freaky stuff to think about and it'll twist your noodles into knots!

It's not enough to want it... you have to want it enough.

I would get on a ship that travels faster than light...kick that thing in overdrive and travel a few "earth days", write down the stock quotes and lottery numbers in the future day. Kick it back into reverse and get back right where I left from with some "get rich quick" data in hand
