Hi Gang

Look at the woman at the top of this popular clickbank product: Pregnancy Miracle™ - Cure Infertility and Get Pregnant Naturally

Ok, now look at this site and scroll down while looking on the left hand side...blow me, it's her twin sister ;-) Fast & Urgent Printing in 24 Hour | Next Day Delivery Printing

    That is pretty funny.

Wonder what the chances are that someone would actually see both of those websites.

And if they did would they even notice the same woman.

Yeah, I think the chances are VERY slim, and the only reason I noticed is because I was promoting the product for a while. I must admit, I don't think I would take the risk though, especially as the product sells so well, I would probably pay a friend to per her photo up there so at least it isn't a stock photo.

If you want to create an identity, but don't want to run the risk of getting caught using a stock photo, you can always approach someone in your local area and ask them to model for you. Just make sure they sign an agreement that says you get the exclusive rights to that photo.

Out of curiosity, how do you guys feels about using an identity that's not your own for a website?

I'm kind of torn. I see the value in using a different identity for each niche you're participating in so they don't pull up everything you're doing on a search for your name. And I can certainly understand why someone wants to protect their privacy.

And is it really any different than an author using a pen name? I don't really have a problem with that.

On the other hand, it feels dishonest to me. Or maybe not as genuine as I like.

"Rich Jerk" was able to do it quite successfully. They created an obviously fictitious character and marketed him as the face behind the product. I had no problem with it. In fact - they held a party at the Playboy Mansion and the Rich Jerk Character was there for photo op's and everything.

I see no problem with using a stock photo in lieu of your own photo and creating a pen name in lieu of your own name. If you are doing something that you see as dishonest then don't do it, simple as that lol

You can always put a disclaimer on the site as well if you have issues.

Well, it does become a problem. Especially with specific niches like diet.

This is not the first time I've seen a stock photo used for 2 completely different things. It's not worth it IMO.

Well there are obviously some niches where its inexcusable.

If you take a stock photo of a fit women and say it was you that lost weight using a product you're selling, thats a no no.

If you take your own photos, use a pen name and say you lost weight I can't see that being a problem.

Its also not a problem to use a stock photo on your site instead of your pic although pretending that is you is definitely grey area.

        Just depends on the scenario.

Haha, Kevin's bacon, that's classic. Although, I'd better not laugh too much because when he catches me, he often beats me up, or at least I have to make him tea and coffee for the next 12 months!

As for the Rich Jerk, don't get me started on that, I bought that months ago, and then got cold calls from the US for about 3 months solid trying to sell me coaching programs, I was not happy, especially as that was advertised on the Sales Page as "one to one help" ha ha, yeah, but you had to pay for it!! Hardly a bonus. Anyway, I'm getting off topic.

Has anyone found this photo on a stock photo site yet? Just because someone looks like a model, doesn't mean that it's necessarily a stock image. It very well could be that she is the owner of the first product, and endorsed the 2nd. Am I missing something here? I still don't see how you're linking that to a stock image?

    Hi Gary

Well, yes, I could be jumping to concussions, but it just seems strange that one is used for a CB product, and the other for a UK based print / design site. I guess they COULD be both genuine, but I doubt it. I'm sure at least one of the sites is using it as a pseudo identity??

I thought the same thing. A well-known now retired Internet marketer got in a lot of trouble for marketing health supplement e-books as written by a "doctor" when they were not. The gov took it all when they went after him.

My name is Lisa Olson and over the past 14 years, through a long process of trial, error and experimentation, I have developed a sure-fire, 100% guaranteed, clinically researched system that is backed by 65,000+ hours of alternative medicine expertise with holistic and Chinese medicine research for getting pregnant quickly and naturally. This is a very rare, highly unique and potently powerful Infertility healing system, which very few women even know exists...
Now, I know the use of pen names is very popular but I think this web site is ripe for a good 'ol american lawsuit.

I'm pretty confident that Lisa Olson hasn't done any of what is being claimed. I'll betcha it's a bunch of made-up BS.

And people wonder why IM has a bad rep.

I grabbed 'Lisa Olsen's' image then uploaded into the image search engine at TinEye Reverse Image Search

The image is being used on several websites, some of which have the hoplinks to the main site visible in the url. The same header image is also used on several other sites with a man's face in the header in place of 'Lisa'.

I think the use of a stock photo really undermines the credibility of the seller, but that is just my own opinion and not based on anything other than a strong dislike of deceptive practices in promoting products online, affiliate or otherwise.

On the other hand, I have a picture of myself on one of my own websites incorporated in to the header graphic. What is to stop someone from stealing my image and using it on other sites? Unless you know me personally, how would you know if the image on my site was really me, or a stock photo. I'm not sure if 'tin-eye' would find my image on other sites if the person using the graphic changed the graphic name.

As for stock photos, I'd really love to know who this guy is:

Photo: Senior business man © Yuri Arcurs #5430702

He's very photogenic and you see his image all over the web, at least I do. I see his image being used on so many sites that there must be something about him that has universal appeal. He usually appears as a business man, but also shows up as a doctor, dentist, sportsman and in many other guises. I call him the 'Anonymous, Famous King of the Internet!'

This is absolutely hilarious. I've seen this happen on other websites too, especially the MMO (make money online) ones, where they seem to love using the same girls over and over again for some reason or another.

There is absolutely no shortage of attractive females on Fiverr who'd love nothing more than to send you their pictures for $5, as Paul above has pointed out, so I really don't understand this phenomenon. Are people really so lazy and cheap that they won't expend a little effort in at least obtaining original pictures that don't show up on every website on the internet? lol....

I guess many of the marketers get lazy about this and end up at the same stock photo sites, and invariably they pick up the same or almost identical photos as a result.

When looking for simple, generic pictures for a website, it really can't be that hard to pay someone to pose for a photo that you'll use for a very long time on your site, but I suppose marketers hate getting up and away from their computers, lol.

Why would they, when there's no need? In 5 minutes they can have a stock photo that serves their purposes.

Some of you folks really like to overreact over non-issues like this. How many people in a year do you think are going to see a stock photo on your site that they saw before on another site, remember seeing it on that other site, and then decide not to buy because they think they recognize the stock photo from a site they visited some time in the past year? Ummm, yeah, I'm guessing about zero.

You're the one over-reacting. We're chuckling about it. The only problem I can see with the pregnancy site is the making up of official credentials for the pen name. That stuff is FTC lightning rod material. Using stock photos, no big deal.

I completely understand where you're coming from on that. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's clearly advertising.

I guess the part I'm having trouble with is using a photo of someone else and a pen name to build an identity in different niches. Like Eben Pagan does with David DeAngelo.

From a business perspective, I completely get it. I understand the advantages.

But on a personal level, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with it. I think it's more to do with the social aspects of the web these days and the relationship building that's happening between businesses and individuals.

I look at it a little like dating. If I meet a really wonderful girl, I don't want to start off the relationship by telling her my name's Mike. lol

I'm sure there are a lot of other ways to look at it. And you guys have already given me some other ways to think about it in this thread.

    Thanks for the conversation!

This is absolutely hilarious. I've seen this happen on other websites too, especially the MMO (make money online) ones, where they seem to love using the same girls over and over again for some reason or another.
I know the pictures your talking about and I think in many cases the images haven't even been purchased but lifted from other sites.

If you do a google image search for some popular terms you'll find many of the over-used stock photos at the top of the list.

    I see this girl everywhere.

Betty Crocker is not a real person; she's a marketing image.

But ... the Sunmaid Raisin Girl is a Squidoo lensmaster.

And ... Duncan Hines was a real person too. I didn't know that until I bought a vintage cookbook that had a dedication in it from him. It had a great title ... "How I Cook It" LOL

Hey if you look closely...the pictures are slightly different. The woman on the 'pregnancy miracle' seems to have had some of her hair chopped off during the editing process

You'll notice, the image on the second website, in the bottom left hand corner has more corners, and splits at the edge of her hair, and she seems to be tilted a bit to the side as well.

Maybe 2 different pictures of the same woman? Could be.

Hahaha, thanks Phil This was brought to my attention by one of our web guys and it gave us all a good laugh. I was going to have them change the picture to your avatar for a day, in tribute to your eagle eyed efforts, but decided, despite your obvious sense of humour, that I better not.

Below is all boring blurb so don't read if you are only interested in the humorous aspect of this thread:
I looked into it and the image is Istock: 7271896 (the image on Hippoprint has been mirrored).
In response to the general comments on here:
Legality - Istock states standard licence allows "Online or electronic publications or uses, including web pages to a maximum image size of 800 x 600 pixels; video image size limitation is 640 x 480. Any size reproduction is acceptable with substantial changes to the content"
Use of stock photography - it seems a lot of people on here really don't like it? Personally, I think it is a great tool and the more these services develop the better for businesses in general.

The "everywhere girl" told her story about that stock photo shoot she did. It was way back when then she started popping up everywhere.

I tend to think in terms of the numbers... sure using a stock photo on a website...may produce a person here or there that notices... but I dont think they care that much... and really its about one in a million the odds Im sure if you go by impressions... so...not that much risk really.
