What Happens When You Flag an eMail Message As Spam in gMail?

Someone I know has me on their joke list. This person has not bothered to send me a personal message in well over a year. But they do send jokes. Lots of jokes!

All jokes are forwarded to me from someone who forwarded the joke to them. I have indicated to this person that I'm not amused by joke emails, but they just keep on coming anyway. Really, it's spam after all is said and done. I didn't ask to get these emails, yet they continue to arrive like clockwork. I'd rather have one personal 'hi, howiya' message than 87 million joke messages. I HATE joke emails! I never, ever open them - I hit the delete button ASAP!

So today, I had finally had enough. I hit the 'report as spam' button. The message simply disappeared from my box.

I started wondering - what is the difference between hitting the 'report as spam' button and simply deleting the message without reading it?

Does the person's email account and/or service provider get marked as a spammer, or is the message deleted with no consequences?

    I'd say the place to ask that would be google.But in my gmail account there is a spam folder and if I say something is spam it gets moved to that folder.
    Then I go to that folder and select all,and say delete forever. ( but I have a feeling google doesn't delete anything,much less for forever).
    And then at the top of the page it will say "X" number of conversations have been deleted.
    What it really does with it, only google knows.

    lol man I screwed up like a couple days ago and accidently flagged a freelancer email as spam and now I dont get anymore ... I had an open job with someone and I was getting all pissed cause they hadnt responded so I finally log in my freelancer account to see they replied 3 days ago! hahahaha ... I'd like to know how the heck to get those emails coming back again heh.
