Hello!

I am so new here. And want to get off to a good start. What is the difference between a legit ad and a spam ad.
I see things that say this is for making money, about business, and finances.

I am sure there are many here with the same question. I know there are spammers. I guess. Aren't they just trying to make money also. So what is the difference.
I am just confused - I want to learn so help a guy out please.

The new guy

    Hi Danny,

If it's an ad of any kind, then you have to pay to post it in any of the few sections that allow ads.

If it's an ad in the main forum, then it's spam. The exceptions are the top banner, signatures, signature banners, and ad blocks that appear at the end of all threads.

My best advice for now is to participate where you can, and if there is any question in your mind, whatsoever, that your post could be possibly thought of as spam...then don't post it.

Read all of the rules and FAQs. They can be found in the stickies at the top, or as links in the red menu bar near the top of the forum.

There is a bit of a learning curve here, but people can be pretty forgiving.

    All the best,
    Michael

Hello Thanks Mike for the response!
Thank you as you can see I haven't even put a signature in. Just playing it safe.
Okay I will get to learning. Joined about a year ago didn't really get involved. Now I am ready. I guess it is true "when the student is ready the teacher will appear". Hope I can PM you with questions or is better to just post here.

Mathmo just don't understand your meaning at all. Please explain. I am really trying to get information here. I like a good joke, but I just don't get that one. Anyway thanks for trying.

      Thanks,
      new guy on the block

As this is in OT I thought a joke would be appropriate

But I guess you don't know spam originally [and still does] mean a kind of meat?

YEAH, and it STILL IS a brand/kind of meat! It is short for SPiced hAM! Maybe people can get rid of, and stop the meat references, since it really IS a trademark violation anyway, It's bad enough that they had to put up with monty python! I wish I remembered the URL, but they DID have a site where they discussed it.

THIS URL gives an idea of how they feel, etc... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/01/31/spam_ruling/

BTW I found that URL which is VERY TO THE POINT: http://www.spam.com/about/internet.aspx

We do not object to use of this slang term to describe UCE, although we do object to the use of the word "spam" as a trademark and to the use of our product image in association with that term. Also, if the term is to be used, it should be used in all lower-case letters to distinguish it from our trademark SPAM, which should be used with all uppercase letters.
Translation MATHMO: THEY CONSIDER THIS a TRADEMARK INFRINGMENT!

I see it mostly, as a person who promotes without really contributing a whole lot outside of promoting. But as Michael said , there is clear protocol here if one reads the rules... to help you stay within the guidelines.
