Andie I know exactly how you feel.

My oldest boy turns 13 in January and starts High School next year. I have been having these same thoughts myself a lot lately. He too is also taller than me, although I'm only 5"4 so it's not hard. I bought him new shoes last week and they were size 10½ almost as big as his Dads.

I still get a hug and kiss before school and at bed time, I'm making the most of those while I'm still getting them. I'm lucky with that I think, I had a Mum at school tell me one day I was lucky to still get a hug before school as her boy hasn't done it for a couple of years now.

And the deep voice thing. All his friends and cousins the same age still have their 'kid' voices, but he has the deep voice already.

Next will be my 11 year old who is only 1cm shorter than me so he's not far behind his brother.

They are all growing up so fast

I have two daughters, one is almost 15 and the other has just turned 13. The baby still loves me, but I'm not 'cool' enough for my first born anymore.
Thankfully, I remember going through my teenage years thinking the same thing about my mum, and realised later that my mum is the coolest person I know
I can't wait for this phase to pass

Oh yes, the deep voice - even has a bit of a 'stache starting but doesn't care to shave yet. Shopping in the men sizes...
Although, he seems to gravitate to the semi-preppy look...and wouldn't dream of doing the popular 'dress-down-code' so many seem to do.

Some Dads are sappy too...

My son turned 16 this year and has started driving - yikes! It's a blessing and a nightmare at the same time.

The thing that usually gets me is that you always notice and make note of the firsts (first step, first word, first day of school), but the lasts always slip by unnoticed (last horsey ride on the lap, last butterfly kiss, last ride on the shoulders, etc.) I hate thinking about it.

My youngest just turned 19 and all I hear is "I'm not a little kid mom" whenever I try and talk to him about partying too much and dropping out of school. My oldest son, 23, and my daughter, 22 are both past that phase thank the Gods and are much more responsible and looking to the future.

Now it's just me and my 3 cats *sniffle*

Like Gary said, some of us men are sappy too,but my oldest daughter is 26 and has two daughters of her own and my youngest is 22 and has a son,and now its "dad, I don't need you to tell me how to raise my children"
Of course we do have the advantage of living the "firsts" all over again.
I remember the first time I took my kids to the fair, and now I have taken my grandkids to their first time to the fair. NOthing like the expression of joy and wonderment on a childs face.

Oh yeah - Happy Birthday to your son

I was at work today, and I met a client I knew many years ago when I had my own practice. She asked, "how's your baby girl", as the last time she saw me was when I had my daughter. That "baby girl" is 11 next month! Time flies too quickly.

My baby boy is 21 next month. The time goes by so quickly, it doesn't seem any time
since he was a baby. He has grown into a fantastic young man and we get on really well.

I was a single parent and we have always been close, I never really had any major
problems with him when he was growing up, even as a teenager.

Oh now I feel all sappy and nostalgic

They do grow up so fast! I have two sons, the oldest is almost 21 and the youngest is 16. It seems like only days ago that they were so little and so innocent. Now they only look innocent when they are asleep lol.

I tend to turn into a sappy mama when I start thinking that my baby isn't a baby anymore, and will soon be grown.

So thee months ago, me and the hubby adopted a three month old standard poodle girl. She just turned six months old and it's like having a toddler lol.

It takes away some of that wanting to feel sappy feeling.
