Have I been ripped off ?

Guys I found a Filipino site that will typeset my 200 page book for $100.

But once I paid I got the full name. Then I did a search and some guys were saying he is a scammer. Doing scams for cash on forums.

So I only paid a few days ago & he is saying I will have my files on Monday. I am now thinking if the files don't come through on Monday - I should do a charge back on the Visa.

What do you guys think ?

    Why don't you wait until Monday and if you don't receive the files then contact them. If you don't receive the files then do a chargeback on your Visa.

    GARETH!! - how long have you been here? Due diligence happens BEFORE you pay, not after.
    Hopefully the guy you saw calling the guy you hired a scammer is just one of the net whiners and you get what you paid for.

    Next time, check them out FIRST. Good grief.

      You already paid - so no sense worrying over the weekend. For all you know the bad stuff you read might be wrong, too.

      If he delivers Monday, no problem. If he doesn't, that's the time to worry about it. However, paying before the work is done is not the best plan.

    Gareth implied that it is like many sites, like priceline. You DON'T get enough info to do due diligence UNTIL you pay! With PAYPAL, they ONLY thing I bid for is CARS! They WON'T tell you who is whatever, or when, except on cars where they HAVE to say WHEN. EVEN on CARS they don't say WHO BUT, happily, they only deal with like 5 companies, and they give you their names up front. Therre are only TWO companies I NEVER deal with. DOLLAR, and Thrifty. They are actually the SAME company. LUCKILY, priceline doesn't deal with them for bids.

    Sites don't give you the name OFTEN on the pretense that you may cut THEM out of the picture.
