so many variables, how old are they? have they been married before? have they already set up house together?
I usually buy premium quality towels or sheets (try to find out their decor first to match)

Hahahah.. That's hilarious! Depending on how close you guys are but, I think vacation package or a picture frames around the house, laptop, kitchen supplies.

LOL... I was going to say something useful then I saw this one.

I all seriousness though I liked the gifts best that we used the most over time.
We have some favorite household things that we use every week that we still remember who gave them 15 years later.
But they are not as fun or get as much notice as some of the gifts mentioned here. Depends on how you want to be remembered by the person getting married I guess.:p

If they are fairly well set up and not depending on presents to kit out their home then you could consider a charity gift eg from Oxfam. When my cousin got married last year I bought them ten mosquito nets. They were genuinely really pleased.

Does the couple have a wedding registry? Many couples do that nowadays to let guests know what they would like to have as gifts.

I always give gift certificates for wedding gifts. That way the newly weds can use it to buy whatever they want. It takes all the guess work out of gift giving for me, and hopefully allows the gift recipients to get something they can REALLY use or something they would really enjoy.

Like in internet marketing...do your researches first, to avoid your present ending up unused in the garage. I wouldn't go for bed linen for a friend, I find it too personal.

Make their honeymoon extra sweet - If you've ever been to the place where the couple is honeymooning, use that knowledge to get them a gift certificate for your favorite restaurant or resort activity. You could also upgrade their plane tickets to first class, give them a camera to help them take great pictures, or give them some spending money tucked inside a guidebook of the area.

I like this idea. Maybe find out where they are staying and set something up extra special with the hotel. Maybe the night they arrive you set up a double in-room massage appointment and something else to make it extra special!

I agree with money. With the price of weddings being so expensive I think that although most people may not say it, they would appreciate money.

If I could afford it I would give them a fair amount but not in cash as it seems a bit crass to just hand out cash like that, even if it was in an envelop or something. I would write a cheque or give them a loaded debit card, preferably the latter. I would not go for a gift certificate as it limits them to the store where it came from.
