Actually, you can walk in a crowd, this might be a great thing to happen, people might actually start walking around with cash again!

Nice find Thom.I have to wonder how long they have actually had the technology before we (the public) were told?

      I wondered that myself Kim.
I also wondered why I didn't here about it on any of the news shows I watch every day.
I did check my cards though and they are safe.

    ThomM,

It WAS in the national news in the US MONTHS ago, I guess possibly YEARS ago. It was a rather small story though, and people hear RFID or whatever and ZONE OUT!

Hey, look at THIS: Getting A Non-RFID Credit Card | Robert Accettura's Fun With Wordage MY CHASE slate card doesn't have that blink logo. It DOES have lines that are concentric and expand. The ONLY time I have seen those it has indicated SOUND, LIGHT, RADIATION, or RADIO WAVES! I have three OTHER cards that don't have that blink logo EITHER *****BUT*****, on the side of the smaller line, it has the WORD BLINK!(WITH the REGISTERED symbol). So I would be willing to bet that ALL of those cards have RFID!

And how did YOU verify your cards ARE safe?

    Steve

That explains why I didn't hear about it.
I've only recently started paying attention:rolleyes:
I do remember when NY came out with the RFID license's.
I've not bothered to get one of those, and won't.
On my two cards I just checked for that >>> sign and any other type of indication that they may have a chip.
Both of mine are bank debit cards though.

Out of the three I checked, TWO are debit cards!!!! You know, RFIDs can NOT be restricted without unusual care, so they should NOT be on DEBIT cards!!!!!! PERIOD! I could see someone getting robbed of ALL their money, and successfully suing the bank. Because, in a VERY real way *****THE BANK***** violated their fiduciary duty to provide security for the account.

Both mine are debit so that's probably why they don't have them.
I just read an interesting comment about this on another forum.
It said if you have 2 cards together and both are RFID cards, the scanner won't be able to read them.

Like I said, MY debit cards have RFID! It IS possible that multiple RFIDs COULD present a problem with reading. I HOPE! ORIGINALLY, there was NO need to handle multiple chips, as it was basically a yes/no or id purpose. There is a RUMOR though that they have put, or are planning on putting, rfid technology into dollars to COUNT them! The US has started acting like some communist countries as they have made it ILLEGAL to transfer more than a certain amount of currency, or investment grade commodities, outside of the country by ANY means, without declaring it, and they supposedly want to automate detection!

Sorry Steve, I thought you said they didn't (it's my paying attention thing)
I don't have any type of credit card anymore, so they're not a worry.
Most of my bills I try to pay with cash .
When I do put money in the bank it is to pay bills or buy something online so there is normally about $5 in my regular bank account and $0 in my Paypal. If my numbers did get stolen I figure the they would feel sorry for me and put money in seeing how there is never any to take out

That's not the worst part of it, IINM you don't even need a signature when you charge things. Imagine if you dropped it and someone picked it up..

This is why I don't have RFID cards
