My sales content has been blatantly stolen. Suspecting mods complicit.

Hi All,

I am the cofounder of a link building service that I haven't yet introduced on Warrior Forum.

I released the first iteration in early September, and the 2nd iteration early November. Someone on this forum has blatantly jacked my sales letter, which included real facts about myself and my company and basically appropriated it as their own.

Their service is different, but they've basically set me up for a) disadvantage (at best) or b) total sabotage when I introduce it here on WF.

HERE IS THE WORST PART-
My 2nd sales letter, the one they copied, was released on November 1.
Their sales letter here is dated 10/28.

This means 1 of 2 things
  1. This person went in and changed their sales letter soon after I posted mine on a different forum or....
  2. A mod here is complicit with the plagiarism and has help change the date here on the forum even though the real thread was posted after Nov 1.
I will not out the perpetrator in public, because I am confident a peaceful resolution can be achieved privately. All I ask is that a mod contact me ASAP. If nobody owns up to this, then I will see towards taking more serious action. The plagiarism is beyond obvious.

If you have ever dealt with a plagiarism issue like this on WaFo, please contact me as well and let me know if I have any method of recourse or if I'm screwed.

Thank you,

AP

I can understand you being upset your sales copy was stolen, but to accuse or suggest a mod was "in on it" is just wrong. You have no evidence of anything untoward on their part, but you plant suspicions in people's mind. That's just as wrong as someone stealing your copy.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

It seems to me you've got a very serious internal problem there ... with your business partner(s).

Try and resolve it if you have all the details..its just not easy for someone to steal an original work just like that...

If you find out for sure who did it you can file a complaint with IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center). You can also send them a cease and desist order and if you can prove your suspicion you can even have their domain shut down. I would be very careful about having the actual facts before you accuse anyone.*

*Keep in mind that making libelous statements about anyone can get YOU sued. Keep in mind it is LIBEL to make an accusation publicly unless the person has been CONVICTED in a court of law. Suspicion and even documentation will not CYA in that situation...

There are pirate sites that routinely steal links from various places including the Warrior Forum - giving people free downloads on products being sold here and elsewhere. Find out how to stop them and you will do everybody a big favor.

It may cost some money to copyright something like a sales letter but looks like it would have been worth it and your case would be a slam dunk.

If and when you find the thief, don't forget to come back and
      apologize to the forum Mods.

First things first... I don't think there is any way for anyone to change the date on a post from within vBulletin once it's been made. To do that would require going into the MySQL database instead, and modifying it that way, which none of the mods can do. I doubt that Allen knows how, and I'm quite sure he wouldn't do it.

Now that we've dispensed with the absurd insinuations, we can look at things within the realm of the possible. These include:

1: Someone stole your copy and changed their existing post to match it. This is something we could take action on, but you'll have to prove it.

2: Someone within your group leaked the copy. This could include a partner, a vendor who worked on it, or someone else who had access to the copy before it was made public. If it was a contractor, it's possible the other person using it also paid for what they thought was original material.

3: You actually stole the other guy's copy and are saying this in order to hurt the competition. Yes, I've seen this one, too.

4: The copy isn't really a swipe at all, but just close enough that you think it was stolen. This happens quite often. Sometimes they're only similar in that they're in the same industry and follow a standard sales copy format.

There may be others I'm not thinking of, but those are the most likely scenarios. I have no idea which is accurate, if any, but you're not going to help your case by suggesting that the mods here are involved.

If you wish to provide some sort of evidence concerning the origin and creation dates of both sets of copy, send it to me via PM. Do not discuss specifics, or anything which could identify the alleged infringer, in a public post here.
