Do You Have Any Odd Little Quirks?

Everyone has an odd quirk or two about them.

For example, when I'm writing I don't like ending a paragraph with one word on the last line. I have no idea why I don't like that, I just don't, and I'll look for a way to add or take out a word or two so it doesn't do that.

What about you? Tell us one of your "quirkies" and let's have some fun together.

Quirks? Me? Um, like the fact that I like to write and pack into rock sites wearing a white dress shirt? Does stuff like that count? If it does I have a hella repertoire of quirks.

I have what I call a security blanket issue (only thing I can liken it to).

I catch myself holding on to the edges of my cuffs in certain situations (like in public) it makes me feel i am attached to something. (remember that song 'i am too sexy for my shirt'?)

I am sure I am much too organized to most people and I do consider that a quirk - when I notice I am over doing it I sluff off a little. (like document manager folders inside of folders inside of folders) - i make things more complicated than they need to be in my habitual quest to create order out of chaos.

Thirdly I am a horrible forum citizen because I do not preview/draft but post and then edit it over and over and over sometimes for days. Most of the time I don't do 'reason for editing'.

Sometimes I pick a random author on Ezine-articles and send a huge amount of traffic to one of his/her articles, to get it on the "Most Viewed" list.

(no, all you negative minds out there, i'm not using BH... it's real, good, legit traffic)

Sometimes authors seem to forget that some traffic from the outside can boost their article to the top list and keep it there for weeks. So I like giving them an anonymous boost.

@ whateverpedia - your mama was right! >:^D

@ Sal - it can count if you want it to count.

@ Ken - it's not just you. Scroll and see.

@ Patricia - that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about! I think when we learn just a little bit more about our fellow members they become more real to us, which can help forge new relationships and strengthen existing ones. By they way, you're not the only one that edits their post multiple times. I preview my bigger posts, but it's funny how you see stuff when it's "official" that you didn't see before.

@ Danny - is that your real name or did you pick that for the former major league baseball player? Or shouldn't I ask? Anyway, I think that's wonderful what you do anonymously for random ezine authors. That's good karma.

As long as you've told us that, I'll tell you a sort of similar thing I do anonymously. I'll buy low cost gifts, like candles or little jewelry boxes or whatever at discount stores - nice stuff but inexpensive - and I'll gift wrap it and just leave it in places like restaurants, a bench at the mall, and places like that, for people to find. I put a tag on it that says "If you found this gift, it was meant for YOU" so the person finding it will know it's OK to open it. Inside with the gift is a note that I hope makes them feel good about themselves, makes them think a little, and inspires them. I never stay around to see who finds the gift. I guess it's kind of dumb, but it feels good to do and I like to think it's a nice little surprise for whoever finds it.

LOL - new quirk - Dennis double posts. LOL.

I too just love your little gift idea. We need more people like you on the planet, Dennis!

Reminds me of one time way back in the day in the Haight Ashbury. Regarding how it is lucky to find a penny. Well I hate pennies (to this day) -

So one day I set out to drop my penny collection everywhere (ala higher than a kite fairy spreading fairy dust). I must have walked for 10 or 20 blocks dropping one or two here and there.

... Only to turn around and see the 3 little girls who had followed me, picking them up to return them to me, (thinking I was leaking I guess). LOL.

That was one time a good deed was not appreciated times two ways.

All sorts of quirks. One quirk is I often rewrite things that have already happened. If I see a bad interview on TV, I'll rewrite it in my head. Rewriting things is a luxury in fiction (and news propaganda which usually overlaps with the fiction category, no, Zorro?), but not in real life. But, I often forget that.

Oooh, I do that too. I'll be watching a sitcom and I'll start rewriting some of the lines. Same with commercials.

      One of my other quirks...

I like to have the icons on the bottom of my screen lined up in a certain order -- generally the order is browser windows, email, word processor. I guess I always open them in that order so I get used to seeing the icons in that order... so if they're not in that order, it's a tad distracting.

p.s. Dennis, you're asking the people in the OT if they have quirks? There aren't enough pixels in the world for these people to list all their quirks...

I love that you leave presents Dennis, that is so nice

    My quirks:

    * I have to eat things in two's - lollies, nuts, those little things, always has to be in two's, can't eat an odd number.

    * I MUST check that the knobs are all turned off on the oven before I go to bed.

I'm sure I have more that I can't think off right now, those are probably my biggest 2.

I re-use styrofoam coffee cups. A lot. The one next to my pot now has been into and out of the car and the Circle K at least a dozen times so far.

I never leave the house without a hat.

When talking to a stranger, I try to make them wake up and smile. It's almost compulsive.

I also hate ending paragraphs with a single word on a line. It looks somehow uneven.

I could go on for pages...

@ Sheryl - My wife always has to check the stove and the coffee pot. I don't know why, I've only left the burner on once in my life.

@ Paul - I don't reuse styrofoam cups, but I always wear a hat too. And, you've known me long enough I'm sure this won't surprise you, but I also like to make people smile and/or think a little bit too.

This is probably going to sound odd but I hide packets of food all round my room. Admittedly I've had an eating disorder on and off for most of my adult life, but it's not related to that at all. Some people with eating disorders hide food to prove to themselves that they can resist it etc but this is not even stuff that I'd want to eat - it's just... there, untouched for months and one of those odd things you do with no real idea why. I'd also rather saw my own arm off than eat in front of anyone other than my kids, which would probably be a bit limiting if I wanted to go out to eat and didn't wonder at the popularity of the whole 'dining out' thing and see it as a totally bizarre pursuit to want to indulge in. Restaurants are just... quirky

I also have a thing about cupboard doors that are open, even if it's just by an inch or two. Unlike my husband, I am a long way from being the world's most houseproud person but I am forever going round closing cupboard doors after him. Sometimes he even opens wardrobe doors a little and drapes a shirt over the top corner. Neanderthal

I like to make people smile too (but I do think it's a bit sad that it's considered quirky rather than normal - in an ideal world we'd all be at it) and also hate to see a lone word on a line at the end of a paragraph. I do delete it, but always suspect that my work will then end up being posted to a flexible layout anyway and the last word of the final line will sit alone in someone's browser because I've just deleted the word that could have kept it company

@ Diane - My wife has that same thing with the cupboard doors. Drawers too. Can't have one be slightly open.

@ Val - I'm guessing you don't find very many of them. Probably means he needs to trim his fingernails. Just caught that "j" on the way to "n".

It seems I'm far from the only one that has that "dangling word" quirk. Good to know.
