In Dec of 2010 I was introduced for the first time to the singer/poet Leonard Cohen.

I feel like all these years I've been missing one of the true great legends in music.

You owe it to yourself to just sample this man's work - imo, it's awesome.

Leonard Cohen is a genius -

The song that got me is this one which I will never forget.

Written and performed by him in 1976 with Judy Collins

Coffee in the mornings is a must! Work sometimes demand that I tweet, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. I Hunt and Shoot Aliens as therapy a few hours every day. I am experimenting with healthy eating, and I enjoy LIFTING apart from tennis, which I have loved from goddess knows when. Apart from Coffee, I love cheeses and wine, as French do.

yeh, this is what gets me, I have never even known this GIANT existed...and I do try to follow music, as much as I can....and I agree "Closing Time" is another classic.
I just read he was in concert in Las Vegas in Dec - wish I could have been there!

It's strange - for some reason I thought EVERYONE was familiar with Leonard Cohen. I wonder if that is a Canadian thing? Everyone I know is certainly familiar with his work. But then, I used to think everyone knew The Tragically Hip, only to find out they are essentially unknown outside of Canuckville.

I was at a Leonard Cohen concert in Edmonton about 20 years ago. It was fantastic! He is not a great singer, nor an instrumentalist, but he is a charismatic and compelling poet. The audience then was also 80-90% women - I have never been to any concert with that few men! I don't know if guys find him too "soft" or something and don't want to go see him live, but it was well worth it. And Cohen was ridiculously sexy!

He is also one of the few artists where, for me, covers of his songs are better than some of his originals. Don't get me wrong, he has lots of songs I cannot imagine anyone else covering, but some have benefited from covers. "Hallelujah" comes to mind - the covers by Jeff Buckley, kd Lang and Kina Grannis are all compelling, different and (for me) vastly superior to Cohen's own performance. I think it shows just how strong his songwriting skills are!

Here are my three favorite "Hallelujah" covers:
        Jeff Buckley

        Kina Grannis

        kd Lang
