Did he ever have a life other than coding?

Now he doesn't even have to do that and is valued in billions.

No one in their right mind would believe this.

And if it were so very stressful why would he not just sell if off :p

Sean, it's ironic how fortunes can change so quickly on the internet. One or two years ago MySpace was cresting a popularity wave, and now it seems to have quickly become just another has-been in the social media space.

Don't under estimate Myspace, it is a gem for the demographic it represents and is ranked 38 on Alexa, anyone who shuts down a site with that high a rating would be nuts.

One could argue that Myspace needs to adapt and catch up as Facebook did after the success of Twitter, but shutting it down would be lunacy.

The article says something like "without facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends..." ROFL.

There is some press about them that while opinion, seems to be more realistic... along the lines of an IPO, but also indicators of the apex of it's fame.

Wow Bill - I would expect more enthusiasm about this from the owner of an IM forum -- I mean, look what this will mean to you after 4/1/2011 when Allen closes the Warrior forum.

Thats true as I tried uploading Yahoo video earlier today and you get the notice that they are cleaning shop and to take any videos you want off their site as all will be deleted (not usre date) but for sure that one is no rumor.

Yeah I do believe he is working hard...just with the strategic part of the business. He has been meeting with a lot of different people talking about expanding etc. As a matter of fact, I think he was in China recently trying to get FB in there. So yes he works hard. He doesn't just sit on his rear all day and chill I can tell you that much.

Only $7 billion of that is in his pocket.

Well I did see someone walking down Oxford Street with a sandwich board stating "The End is Nigh" - I guess that's what he meant.

Most of them know it is a hoax. If you think I am missing something, reread the thread. Some of them seem to believe in this and the tooth fairy. :rolleyes:

Unless Zuckerberg believe on 2012 movie, this might be not true.

For the few that don't know, Facebook Director of Corporate Communications, Larry Yu, confirmed that it is false.

What really sucks about this is that the source of the story broke news that "Alien Spaceships To Attack Earth in 2011" and all people are concerned about is this silliness. Priorities people!

I think this would be a nightmare for internet marketers.

Rachel please explain the attraction of Facebook. Obviously it is ranked No.2 after Google but I mean on a personal level.

The way I see it any old friends you have lost contact with did not give a **** because they did not maintain contact.

What is the obsession to share and publish your (not you personally) life on a publishing medium (the Internet).

A friend of mine was recently married, when he told me about his wife to be, he pointed me to her FB page. She works for a credit card company. She had her whole life up there, the names of her kids, the dog, favourite cakes, the lot. We had dinner a few days later and I was able to guess her passwords.

The place is a data mine for identity thieves, the default settings are lax and FB has reset the settings in the past. If you set it to friends of friends you are essentially saying that you trust the security awareness of those people (most of whom you will not know). That is like giving the key of your safe to every friend of every friend.

The custom settings are adequate and the only way to use it safely but after reading the founders many opionions I have no confidence. Mostly I just don't have the time, imagine if you put all that effort into your blog or other paying online activity.

I also think Facebook is extremely dangerous for young minds, they do not enforce the under 13 rule and even those between 13 and 17 are extremely vulnerable to predators.

I know kids will use it, my issue is with the default settings, it should be locked down by default and a hassle to change.

I was recently approached by someone who wanted to do business with me, they had a great linked in page, Facebook was locked down, but they left their Myspace open. In 30 seconds they went from impressive junior executive to someone 6 months out of college where they seem to spend most of their time drunk with lewd pictures her friends took of her whilst drunk. Not one or two, hundreds.

People seem to forget, the Internet is a publishing medium, it is indexed and cached, so anything you delete can be found easily if you know what you are doing.

Even if you can lock down your FB settings, I still don't get the attraction.

I agree with both of you, although I'd add that Grandma would appreciate a phonecall, or even a visit a lot more.

This myth was debunked long ago, why are people bringing it back up?
