I got this awesome software Software to easily learn to read and write Chinese characters and vocabulary

Makes it super easy - learn to read / write as well as speak.

Got some books & MP3's too. I figure it will take 1-2 years to be reasonably fluent.
But I will stick to it - look at the business opportunities.

I wouldn't waste my time learning Mandarin. Just use interpreters. Business in China is actually doing much better than anywhere else in the world right now, however. They are looking for home business opportunities and just about anything considered fashionable.

Somehow the idea of that face mastering speaking a tonal language has put me into convulsive laughter. Being that there are only 5,000 basic "letters" in the Mandarin alphabet, I'm sure it will be a real treat to learn after mastering intra-species communications.

Many also do speak English. I have quite a number of Chinese customers, but for the ones that don't speak English, I just use my affiliates to translate. Much easier.
