A few months back I asked the Warriors to help me raise funds for The National Kidney foundation. I know what a great organization this is from personal experience. As many of you know I am in kidney failure and do dialysis 6 times a week. For those that don't know, dialysis involves cleaning my blood because my kidneys no longer do that. I have two hoses attached to my arm,one for the blood to leave my body and be cleaned,the other where the blood comes back into my body. Actually thats just a very simplified explanation.

Anyway,this week I have finally been put on the national kidney list again,which means I can be called to get a transplant at any time,and my chances are higher if I have a live donor. I don't have a live donor yet,but I am always hopeful.

I currently have private insurance which helps with the medical costs and the premiums have been paid by a variety of means but they were cobra'd. They will expire at the end of June,then I will strictly be a medicaid patient. My insurance will pay 100% of the transplant costs, medicaid only 80%,so of course I am hoping to get it before the insurance runs out.

Now, thats a pretty long explanation,but this is what I am asking for help with. I have a page where I can take finacial donations, it is located here:

While the insurance will pay 100% of my transplant medical costs for both myself and for a live donor, it does not help cover living expenses for either of us. That is why I started the fund listed above,to help cover the living expenses while recovering of any one that donates a kidney. ( I have had two people offer already but for various reasons they wouldnt work out).

What can you do to help?
Well,yes, you can donate.Every dollar will help, but knowing how big the Warrior family is,I am asking that you send my donation page to your friends,family etc,etc.

If you can help,great,if you can't I understand, times are hard for a lot of us. either way,thank you for reading this.

Hey Kim, spent many years working with kidney patients developing software for their care, so know a lot about it, wish you all the best. Do you have end stage renal failure or is there some residual function?

Are things that positive for Donors in the US? In the UK we have free healthcare at the point of delivery, which means we never refused to treat people. We pay for it with a national insurance deduction from paychecks with employers paying a contribution too. I know patients who have been on HD for years, dabbled in PD and returned to HD. One thing I did not know was that smokers can have major complications with transplants, apparently their veins become very weak and will not graft.

I have had a few surgeries myself and know it can knock you back. I love the idea that some Warriors are providing products with 100% going to you, just shows there are some good people out there.

I am going to look at your products and will revisit this page to review anyone who does the same thing.

That's heavy, don't HOPE it is going to be your year, MAKE it your year. Make the decision, then work backwards from there to where you are now to find your route. Stick to that route, no deviations. The only person that can hold you back is the one looking back at you in the mirror.

Virginia sounds very north to me, but I'm not very well traveled. I think Lake Tahoe is probable the furthest north I've ever been, with the exception of a quick trip to NYC for a Geraldo show.

You made me think of a moment of youth I had growing up in Tx panhandle (which was too cold in the winters for me as well; lots of ice/snow)...anyway, new to driving and being impulsive as I was, we decided we'd go to OK one night (no reason required)...made it to Eerie (I think that was it) before we concluded we really had no place to go or anything to do, so we drove back. Probably blasting AC/DC and Black Sabbath the whole way in the smoke-filled car.

Back from my errand, in my recliner and cozy again. Now to get back to making my recliner riches

OK, heres the story.
Yesterday my wife and daughter were heading to Northern Virgina to do something we felt was very important.
We were traveling Northbound 95 when the passenger side rear tire blew out.
We skidded across three lanes of traffice and hit the embankment. I thought we flipped over once, but my wife and daughter say we flipped over twice.
No matter what, the bottom line is we were in a serious accident.
I don't remember how, I got out, but I know I managed to get out of the vehicle quickly.
I ran to the drivers side and could hear my daughter panicking,Her face was covered with dirt but I saw no obvious signs of injury. I managed to calm her down a bit, not much but a bit, and went to check on my way.
My wife had blood sreaming down the side of her face.
The steering wheel was shoved into her chest making her unable to move or breathe.
But the worst was there was a flap of skin torn away from the scalp that was just flapping back and forth on her head.
I tried to call 911 but wonderul sprint said they could not recognize the number we were trying to reach.
At that point I ran to the side of the road, blood streaming down one of my arms and started waving my arms and yelling help.
I was amazed and disheartened at the number of people that just passed on by while as far as I know my wife was dying.
Finally a car with two young men and two young women stopped. They helped calm down my daughter and my wife.They also were able to reach emergency services so we soon had ambulances and fire trucks on the scene.
Our vehicle was totalled. The firemen had to use the "jaws of life" to get my wife out.
Both my daughter and myself were very very lucky and escaped with minor scrapes,cuts,wounds and bruises.
My wife was kept over night.
She got 9 stitches in her right cheek.
She got 25 staples in her head.
We are now totally vehicleless,but everyone is still alive, and that is whats important.

Buddy, it seems life is dealing you a bucket on duds right now, you are due for a good run sooner or later. If you were in oz id lend you my car but your bit far away for that. The good thing everyone is OK.

I agree, something like a wreck can really put other things in perspective.Thank you for the offer though.
It seems that the wreck may have destroyed my fistula. This is what we use for dialysis every day. I had a nurse try to help with my dialysis today because my wife was in the hopsital,and she is the one that usually does it.
Anyway, the nurse stuck the two needles in, loosened the touniquet and turn on the machine. It started to hurt immediately,and within seconds you could see may upper arm start to inflate. At that point he said the accident must have broken my fistual and I have to see a specialist ASAP.
That will be tomorrow AM I hope.
Luckily I wont die by skipping an extra day, but I will probably sick as a dog by tomorrow morning.

I've had more than my share of crashes (all long ago thankfully) and those were scary enough without rollovers, jaws of life, etc. dayumm

Am leaving in a few minutes to go see the vehicle and take pictures.
It hurts to do anything,breathe, turn the head, anything causes pain at the moment.
They did let my wife out of the hospital though,thats a plus.
As far as my missed treatment, yes,I am feeling rough,but hopefully will be able to do one today.

Picture 2 shows the whole drivers side. They used the "jaws of life" to get my wife out.
Picture 3 shows the passenger side from the rear. Not the best picture for showing the damage, but I think you can see how lucky I was.
