The Perks of Working at Home

I just looked out my office window, and noticed that there's a huge blizzard outside. Everything is covered in snow! It looks so beautiful....

One Year Earlier...

I just looked out the window and realized there's a FFFING BLIZZARD OUSIDE!!!!!

****, now I have to get up 2 hours early so I can shovel out my car and scrape the layer ice off my windshield. Plus I get to add an hour onto my normal 30 minute commute, just so I can get to my 'ever so fulfilling' 9 to 5, on time! I don't understand how people forget how to drive in the winter!! Winter happens every year! This is CANADA!!!! GRRRRRR!!!! I HATE MY LIFE!

I live in sk I know the feeling:p

Sometimes it is nice to sit home and see the neighbors up at 6 scraping freezing and me here with a nice cup of java checking my sites. I don't envy them that is for sure
    cheers

I do that too, haha, just watching them all struggle in the snow...and for some reason I get such a great satisfaction out of it...it's like "yep, life is gooood." I was there not too long ago, and like you said, I don't envy any of them.

Awesome Holly! I went through that when went full-time in 2007. Living in Minnesota was fun not have to deal with driving in that crap!

Now I live in San Francisco but today I looked out the window and it was raining. I was like oh, that sucks. And poured another cup of coffee in my sweat pants.

Nice tale of contrasts, Holly. Like you, when I used to have I job I'd look out and see snow I think #@&!!*#^ snow! Now though, when I look out and see snow I think #@&!!*#^ snow!

I can't help, I just don't like snow, but at least I don't have to go out in it.

It's funny, I have grown to love snow ever since I didn't have to go in it!

Perhaps I don't because I have something like 300 feet of sidewalk to clear, plus my driveway, and my elderly neighbor's property. Still beats leaving to go to a job. lol

Of course, but you need to start delegating!

Another perk - Paying someone else to do the tasks, that you don't want to do!

You're time is way too important now (right?), but I'm sure there's a kid who would love to make some extra cash by clearing your snow!

Delegating ... ha ha, the kids are grown and gone and my wife never does what I tell her!

I have paid to have it done before, when my snowblower broke down, but since it's the only exercise I get in the winter, I'd better keep doing it. Gotta work off all that snacking somehow.

I was just thinking the same thing, we got 6 inches of snow here last night and I'm watching my neighbors out shoveling at the crack of dawn while I was drinking coffee and checking emails...not a bad life at all

Exactly! It's the little things that make me appreciate working for myself! A friend of mine just emailed me and said it took her 3 hours extra to get to work this morning! I replied with, "That sucks, it only took me 2 seconds!" hahaha!

You guys make me jealous. I am going work harder faster I think a second home where it does not snow will be my choice though when I can work totally from a computer.

Actually, am curious what the purpose of pouring coffee in your sweats would accomplish? I think I would favor leaving it in the cup?

This post reminds me why I am up at midnight when the alarm will be ringing in less than 5 hours to wake me for my 65 mile commute to work in Chicago rush hour traffic. The day will come when all of the late nights come to fruition and I am enjoying that 5 second commute from my bed to my office.

          Thanks for the continued inspiration.

I don't even have to do that 5 second commute! I just sit up and lean back on my pillows. I have this metal rack that I put across my lap and it's just the right size for my laptop. So the laptop isn't even sitting on my lap and I can work away very very comfortably

Now that is just plain rubbing it in! :p
