I took the turkey out of the freezer last night and this morning it's still rock hard. How much longer till its ready to cook? I have family coming over in a few hours...

You can try warm salty water in the sink...

You're chances of having it thawed would have been much better if you had done it ast night though...

I would advise a grocery store run at this point though.

Won't that make it taste too salty?

        It's called "Brining"

Brings out the favor and makes it moister.

And if you want to KEEP the moisture while cooking...try it in a big, brown paper grocery bag.

Stuff the turkey with oranges or apples.
Place in paper bag (loosely fold the end so it can "breathe") and set in a large baking pan with maybe 1/4" inch of water in the bottom...

Bake at 300 for 6 to 7 hours.

Moistest turkey you'll ever take out of the oven.

I put fresh herbs (picked right outside the door) between the skin and meat of the bird before roasting. Smells/tastes great!

OK - revealer - how did that turkey do????

Even a small (UK size) will take 24hrs+ to properly
and safely defrost. A big one can take 2 to 3 days.

We usually give our Xmas one a good 36 hrs before it goes in the oven.

        2 choices -

run to the store for a fresh, unfrozen turkey

Call to see what restaurants are open

Seriously - if only the center of the bird is still frozen, running warm (not hot) water over it for a while may do the trick in time. If the entire bird is frozen, you've got a problem.

My microvwave has a defrost feature but the bird doesn't fit inside. I'm trying a hairdryer.
