That's how much my friends and family, but mainly the Warriors donated to The National Kidney Foundation when I participated in the local Kidney Walk.
I needed to call someone at the local branch of The National Kidney Foundation and while locating her number, I saw the fundraisng results again.
I don't know what happened, but the team that beat us is no longer listed above us. The Kidney Walkers is once again in 1st place!.
( This isn't official, the person I was calling wasn't in and I had to leave a voice mail, but it sure looks this way).
I want to thank each and every Warrior that helped out.

  • Wow! That's great. I can only hope you get the same kind of results with the latest fundraiser. I told a few people your story in a meeting today, and gave them the link.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • There are other threads that explain the progress much better than this one,I might try to dig them up later and link to them in this one.
I also want to thank you for your support Aaron.
  • back in top spot?? wow...that is interesting, maybe the mega donor to that east-west-bunch went south??

Want to hear how this one ends up and what the fund-raiser folks say.
Of course, it is all to know yer mug is posted for thousands to see
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Well that may be good news, Kim!

    You know I hope so!

I am sure you will let us know ASAP how this shakes out, all the best

... then we can focus our energy on the new fundraiser.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Well the walk fundraiser is officially over January 19th, with an announcement on the 27th . I really have stopped with the walk one and am more focused on the transplant one.
  • Well, looks like I was wrong again. I just got an email from the lady in charge.
This is what she had to say:"Also, in regards to the team that was #1, they are still in first place just had to reissue a different check to us. Thanks for asking!"

    • So they bought their way in.

      Sally was right.

      Those scoundrals!!!!!!!!!!

    • best time to strike with it no?

I'll say a lil prayer that their second check bounces as well :/

      thanks for the update Kim
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I actually am beginning to think its funny.
Now that I have asked the lady about it, the whole Richmond Kidney walk links are gone.
Interesting since we are suppose to be able to donate till the 19th.
    Kim (The conspiracy theorist!)
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • that is funny....guess they have to get the ducks on on the same story!
well, actually it is a shame, so going the cons. route may not be bad for them
  • That's great, was the goal achieved?

    Bernard St-Pierre
  • I'll be calling their main office. That stinks. In fact it is fraud. They duped a LOT of donors and they need to be called on it. They will be.
  • It happens that a bank won't honor a check for example if it is 3rd party. (e.g., I sign my check over to you and you pay kidneywalk with it)

So then You may have to deposit it into your account and wait until it clears at the payers bank. Then write a check on your own account.

Even money orders or cashier's checks that the bank initially accepts may be returned 2 weeks later. Yes it can take them that long to recognize a bad/forged/whatever instrument.

    Let's see what happens.

I am pretty sure the Kidney Foundation is not going to sit down for fraud and get drug under de bus -

Although it really is about "buying themselves in" for real.

Isn't that the objective? Other than for the team efforts.

To bring in money to the Kidney Foundation?

    ------------------------

And what if the #1st place guy when approached for a donation from his grandaughters team - he said - like an auction = tell me like your highest team $ donations -

I will match it and you will win 1st place.

Well let's not forget what the charity is about and hope that again a conspiracy theory won't come true (but many will someday)...

May the best Team Win! Of course we hope it's Kims!

Let's hope this team does as well for the kidney transplant initiative as it did for the donations for the team!

    Go Kim-team!

    • Pat - there is no conspiracy theory involved in this one. To allow someone to buy into a race that they were not properly registered for at the ending date of registration is fraud. Period. The people donating have a right to be able to expect that their funding might produce the prize offered - in this case the billboard. Putting ringers in at the last minute that can just afford to "buy" that prize negates any possibility of the people donating to win that prize so they are being told they are donating for something when the prize is not actually available. Had I known they were going to do this to me - ALL of my donation would have gone straight to Kim, not to the foundation.

All in all - I'm keeping an open mind that the National or State level had no clue what the local level was cooking up. I want to see that tramp fired for defrauding me of my money. If they are doing this at higher levels, then the executives need to be fired and replaced with people who have some honesty. I am not saying the foundation is a hoax. I know full well how Kim has benefited from it. I'm just saying they have some crap on the floor that they really need to clean up.

BTW - I have reported this incident to the Nat'l Headquarters Corporate Relations department.

  • Patrician,
I am in 100% agreement with you.
The important thing in the long run was the outstanding job the Warrior Forum did in pulling together and rasing what we did.
Honestly, If we had won,If I had any options we were going to have a big picture of the banner put on the billboard. The one with KJ's mascot drawing and the WF logo.
It would have made a much better picture than a billboard size picture of the team! The thought of a team picture is darn scary!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Kim - how is it going?

Beyond the walk now right - any funds collected are for the transplant 'initiative'? Has there been much response yet?

We need to somehow get people excited again. The 'team' 'win' and all brings out people's competitive nature which helps to motivate them.

Maybe some contest or something to see who can bring in the most dollars?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • So did all of the money we all donated end up going to a good cause? That's the big question
    • [1] reply
    • That's my main concern, Caleb. If they pull tricks like this one on the walk event, exactly what are they doing with their books? It was kind of a stupid move to make with all the non-profits being investigated lately.
  • Of course it went to a good cause Caleb - the National Kidney Foundation.

The only issue is which team wins the prize for the most donations.
  • Ahh Ok... Sorry was confused with the word conspiracy.

    Caleb
  • Patrician, you are right,no more fundraising for the National Kidney Foundation. Anything now will go to help defray some of my expenses.

As fas as that "out of the blue" team, I don't know when they signed up otr anything else about them. The only thing I knew for sure was that Our team was ahead both before and after the walk, with th Media General team bing a close second.
It was a bit after that suddenly this other team shows up beating us.
NOw I think its a bit weird that it went from 10K+ in donations down to 5K+,and that after I mwntioned it the whole walk page dissapeared, since the whole time we were told we could fundraise til the 19th. Its just the principle of the whole thing.
Like I said, I am no longer trying to raise fnds for then.
Though we will see what next year brings.
  • Pat - the fundraising event was a walk - and that team was not listed. If it was a bonafide team, they would have been listed at the very least and totals would have been ongoing. How would one team be allowed a blind registration and total if it were not fixed? I used to work in PR and I know these tricks. It stinks. It's not ethical. It's not legal - and the Nat'l branch needs to know exactly what their satellite managers are doing. As donors WE had a right to know the other team was there and totaling up as well. And I did "bring it". I just didn't call investigations in. I just told the Nat'l office what is going on.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Sal,

Are you sure they were never listed? If that IS true it's one thing, but if their total was too insignificant to list in the beginning and they found someone to later donate a significant amount in their name it's quite a different matter.

I'm not in possession of the facts but here's one thing I do know...

That "team" donating that much to the NKF is a good thing (my assumption), but if the donation is tied to an 'after the fact' winning of the billboard spot, than that is wrong on many levels.

If the local chapter is being pressured to allow that kind of buy-in and they are seriously giving it consideration, than that speaks volumes about the ethics of those involved.

And if that is the case I hope they get nailed for the misdeed.

Fwiw, newspeople sit in their offices all day long praying they get a whiff of a story like this...
  • Definitely if they did something like what you suspect then they need to be kicked to the curb - thrown under the bus - ostracized, penalized, circumsized. whateveR

    Go for it Sally SEZ.
  • Hi KJ,
I think that was discussed before. Just because I didn't see it before doesn't mean it wasn't listed. There were many teams and I was only keeping track of the top 10.
Honestly, as has been mentioned before, I think we did an excellent job, billboard or no.
Lets all just move on with life.
  • None of the teams had donations from the get. They all should have been recorded even if the top 10 were the ones that got the publicity later on.

It's possible that Kim didn't notice them and they just kept their donations until the last minute then pushed them through so nobody would take a last effort at beating them out - and that's why I didn't report to an outside agency for investigation - but I do think the Nat'l Branch needs to look into it. Crooks often get into agencies and actually get promotions due to shady activities and all the sudden you get criminals running the show. We've seen that in corporations and agencies all over this country. So flagging suspicious activity doesn't send feds on a wild goose chase, it just keeps the Nat'l office overseeing activities to keep crooks out of the organization. Kim brought something fishy to our attention - let the Nat'l Office see that it is all good or not. If people report stuff that doesn't appear kosher from the get a lot of criminals would not be in their cushy positions and businesses and organizations would be running much more efficiently and a lot of money would be saved for it. I didn't make strides to topple an organization - I just want to make sure stuff is done according to Hoyle.

Whether this was true fraud or just something that was done legally but looks really bad, reporting it isn't going to hurt anyone who actually was above board in their activities. Next year they might just make an effort to record things better for the donating public.

And I do agree that the Kidney foundation does a lot of good for a lot of people - I'd like to see it stay that way. I want to see donations continue and I want to see them go where they are meant to go.
    • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • Well, let me say Sal gets action!
I had a talk with the local head and while I am convinced they didn't do anything wrong, is was a comedy of errors and things got FUBARed.
It would take way to long to type out the whole story, but Sal sent an email that got things looked into and while I am now convinced everything was and is above board in the future they will make sure that things are done in a more transparent way.
    Hats off to Sal!
PS: As of today our team IS the billboard winner. They are still taking funds in until the 19th so there is always a chance we will get knocked out of first again, but it is very doubtful.

    • 'life is a twisted web we weave'

Well - So the very good news that Kidney Walkers are back in their rightful position of #1 Champions of the World,

... that is the very thing that now makes me suspicious about the so-called 'comedy of errors' that led to the other team being listed as #1 out of the clear blue sky.

Yeh - if nothing 'funny' was going on everything would still be the same -- however, 'all's well that ends well'.

On the other hand I think you are saying it was just a 'reporting' error rather than something more substantial.

Whatever - just so KIMS KIDNEY WALKERS IS THE BOSS!

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Very glad to hear that, Kim. I think I'll write the HQ a thank-you note for their quick response. They really moved fast. I'm impressed.

  • Well, today is the deadline day and last time I checked no one bounced from behind and jumped in front of us!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • COuldn't find the billvoard thread ( and yes I used the search function, so I am posting this info here.
I emailed the kidney org and asked about the status of the billboard. This is hat I was told:
" I sent the info over a few weeks ago. The woman just got back from vacation and is checking location and availability. I'll let you know once she gives me the location and exact date it goes up."

So it looks like it might not be too much longer!
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Don't forget the pictures once it's goes up.
