When I first moved here I lived with my son till I found a house. He had two beagles that stayed in the humongous fenced back yard. Doesn't get very cold here except for about a month or so each year.
It was cold enough that we had "hard frosts" - which is just below freezing.
He had a huge doghouse where the two dogs would cuddle up - but we began waking early in the morning to find two cold beagles laying on the damp frost on the grass. The cat "Peaches" (about 9 lbs - little cat) was chasing them out of the doghouse and was curled up inside!
