There's been a bunch of chatter lately about income claims and faking screen shots. And for good reason.

It can be done in less than 30 seconds.

However, you gotta be a moron to take a risk like this in my opinion. Watch how easily I stack a few million dollars in less than 30 seconds...

More like a "guess how to" as I didn't show anyone how to do it. Besides, if anyone actually does it they are a f*cking derelict scam artist who deserves to have their testicles crushed into a vice.

Agreed. If I want to make something look slick and professional - and come on, why wouldn't I - it's just a couple hundred bucks. There are so many aspiring film school and art school students out there, and some of them are real professional-quality folks.

You can have professional level direction, production, editing, animation, artwork, and 3D modeling for just a few hundred bucks if you know where to look, and a few thousand if you just run some Google searches. If you've got time to dick around with Camtasia, you've got time to look up a decent production house and write a damn check.

I'm still not convinced it isn't a double edged sword.

Most people already know not to trust screen shots, so only newbies are affected either way.

I suspect the vast majority of newbies will be glad you pointed this out to them...but there is always one turd that sees something like this and gets inspired.

The people who do this don't invent the concept, they hear about. They almost certainly persuade themselves that everyone does it, because this is how people always justify the bad things they do.

Back in college I had to sit in court and listen to all sorts of cases, and regardless of how abnormal or depraved the crime was, the scumbags always assume everyone was like them. This has led me to believe that the more we talk about bad things, the more they are normalized, and accepted as an unfortunate but unchangeable condition.

In case there is any doubt about my opinions on the subject, I am in favor of the vice. However, I have always had reservations about the impact of talking about concepts that we would prefer went away.

There was another thread on this forum about the same thing so I did know it could be done. I always suspected that they could be faked.

Showing screen shots or boasting of income just isn't a style to which I want to become accustomed. I rather doubt a lot of the truly wealthier people reveal their real earnings...especially to preserve their own and family's safety. Seems to me to be a lot like placing all your personal data on various sites and then announcing the whole family is leaving for a month's vacation. That's an invitation to theft or worse.

I know marketing e-products is a bit different, but who started this screen shot business? Large corporations don't do this, and they get plenty of buyers. It's a practice that should just stop.

Unfortunately in the IM industry this has become the norm because of the very nature of our industry. There are so many products out there claiming to earn this and claiming to earn that. People want proof to eliminate their suspicions and back up the claims they have read - for a lot of people, screenshots will be enough to push them over the line.

When browsing through a lot of WSO's in this very forum one of the first questions I will often see asked, when a new WSO claims to make $X per day, is for proof or screenshots of earnings. A lot of people want to see that 'proof' before they hand over the money - if only they had read this thread first...

This is really only half the issue anyway. One of the bigger problems amongst some of the more experienced marketers is not them faking screenshots, but using screenshots of earnings that have been accumulated from one method to back up another product.

For example someone sells a product on clickbank and makes some good money. They can then come up with a Make Money Online product and use screenshots from their previous product to support the earnings of this new product - when the two are not related at all.

This is why even when people are willing to log in live on video to prove their earnings, a lot of times you also have to take that proof with a grain of salt.

I couldn't agree more, Jason. I would put FAKE scarcity right up there with fake income screenshots. (i.e. we're only selling 20 copies... when it's obvious based on their Clickbank gravity or ranking they've sold several thousand). No wonder internet marketers get such a bad rap.

I remember seeing another video on this topic about 6 months ago and I had no idea that these things could be faked so easily.

And yet I wasn't really concerned for myself because no matter if I'm buying OR selling online I always come from a place of trust.

As a buyer I put pretty high expectations on the people I buy from. I almost never, ever randomly buy from strangers online. And if I do, it would be small amounts I'm willing to gamble and part with. If I'm about to spend $50 or more I know the person well, I've read their blog, got on their email list and googled them. I make sure I can trust them before I even think of buying from them. At that point proof becomes a non-issue. Most times I buy stuff from people I've known of for years and years, lots of time at that point I don't even read their sales letters just look for the buy button.

I guess I kinda expect the same from my market. I write good copy to get the point across of what I have to offer, I offer it and that's that. I add what necessary proof I can but it's more like examples, I don't I've ever shown money screenshots. Not that I'm a big time marketer or anything but I do find my market really trusts me which is the goal.

Now that we know that earnings screenshots can be faked, does that mean that we shouldn't trust any WSO or course out there? So how will know that a course really works if we don't believe the screenshots?

If it is blind copy, then you can almost guarantee that it is fake.

        Example of blind copy:

        "This e-course is not about:
        - Google Adwords
        - SEO
        - Clickbank
        - Amazon
        - CPA
        - etc"

Honest product tell what is inside those product. What are the features of those product, what is the benefit that you will get if you implement what inside those product.

Bottom line, if product say 'no' to everything inside its courses, then probably it is fake product.

Just my two cent -- I don't what two cent means, but this term used widely for giving opinion, so I used it for this opinion.

Anyone care to tell me what is 'just my two cent' means?

Thanks for the post! I figured people were doing this from time to time, but didn't realize it was so easy.

Generally, I would think that people would talk to other folks, look at what other information was available, or just buy a lower priced product before jumping on the bandwagon in a product launch.

If I ask people to buy something from me that is a nice chunk-o-change... I ask them to CALL me and we can discuss things... THEN, I generally give some information that will make them more money than the product or coaching actually costs... At that point, even if they never buy anything from me, they will make some money and have a nice warm feeling in their heart for me.

    Here's why this is lame:

When people post legitimate screenshots (like the ones I did in my WSO thread) now people are going to assume they're fake. It just sucks because LEGITIMATE proof of income is being undermined by these losers who have to fake it.

Oh well, at least as far as WSO's go, people can post reviews right there in the thread, so it's obvious what everyone thinks of any given product.

I read the headline and the reviews, then if it looks good I'll go back and look at the copy.

I think most people do that, as the reviews are the main advantage of buying something from a forum.

Unfortunately, a huge number of ads use the screenshot as "proof" the product is good as gold.

Let's think about this for a moment:
Big product launch, new product, never sold before... huge build up, but look at the sales copy. There it is, PROOF that this makes money because they have a screenshot that shows income from the product. Is this faked?

One would argue that the proof is the test runs the product owner used to develop and validate the product, so the argument would seem to support the claims.

A pessimist would ask: If this autopilot, make money on demand, do it all for you, or underground method would make this sort of money without any effort on your part, just WHY in H*LL would they sell it to anyone? Why not just duplicate it, let it make the money, put it in the bank and retire? Well, probably because it doesn't work.

Yep, probably another over hyped, re-hashed or under-developed product sold via a blind ad, and promoted among several high profile product owners with huge lists to take advantage of the very human emotions they play upon...

Let's get real. If they have provide "screen shots" or even "live video" showing how much money they make to convince you to buy, they probably aren't telling you anything about the product. Look at the copy. Closely. Notice they aren't selling a product, they are selling a dream. If they can get you to also see the dream, you will open your wallet and give them your money. Not just for the advertised product... it is only the beginning. Look at the one time offers and upsells that follow. Yep, they're selling a product for $27, $47, $67 or $97 that's worth thousands... Then in the upsells, they pitch you for the "better" product for another $197, or the "membership" in "the club" for only $97 a month. But because you'll be making thousands on autopilot, it'll be free, won't it? [sigh] Yep, several upsells later, you actually download your product, and by now, you may not even remember what it's supposed to do (did they really tell you???). Next day, or next week, you're even less sure it will work. By the time the credit card bill comes, you may not even remember the membership you signed up for.

And to think, all this started with a screenshot "proof" of earnings they showed you in the sales copy...

[sorry, getting late. Stepping off the soapbox now.
Nothing to see here, everything is OK... Please don't step into the traffic lanes folks... Move along now... ]
