I'd argue that INCEPTION is a pretty serious movie. It may have sci-fi trappings, but it's a thoughtful study of human consciousness (and unconsciousness).

I'd agree. I thought Inception was a great movie.

What's interesting to me is films I thought might be good before I saw them (Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans) turned out to be disappointing at best yet enough people thought otherwise.

It all depends on your taste... I happened to enjoy Iron Man 2. Maybe that's because I was a fan of reading the comics way back...

You may be right, I don't know, I haven't seen it, but I do know from the previews and commercials I saw for it that it isnt based in reality.

I'm guessing you like more "drama"/real type movies, which is nothing wrong with, but in the scheme of things the "serious" type movies generally do not generate the massive revenues that others make (like this list) as they don't have the attraction to view that other movies have.

More people are more apt to see an action flick (Iron man 2) than a serious flick...umm like Black Swan, which actually was good and extremely creepy at the same time lol.

No, not really. I actually love a good action movie. But being top grossing doesn't mean good.
Clash of the Titans was really bad in my opinion. Iron Man 2 was ok.
I haven't seen Black Swan yet, but probably will at some point.

And of course the demographics that the movies on the list appeal to are the ones who have the disposable income to see them in the theater.

Being a serious movies doesn't mean good either though.

I guess my original comment was more along the lines of see how escapism is more important than real life.

gotcha.. now I know what you meant.

I''m def more of a action guy, whether straight action, or horror or sci-fi action etc. I didn't want to see Black Swan as it just didn't look like my type of movie, but ended up seeing it and I really liked it, extremely twisted and creepy, not what I was expecting lol.

Yes, it seems like escapism is the order of the day and a sign of the times.
