What operating system goes on them - can u put normal windows xp on them or does it have to be a special version of windows?

  • Rob,

Most of them come with XP or Win 7. You can add other OS's pretty easily.

I picked up one of the 14-hour battery ASUS machines with a 160 meg HD and I love it. Added another gig of ram and set it up to dual-boot. Choice of Linux or the Win 7 that came with it. The whole process took about 20 minutes.

    Great little machine.

  • I have an Acer Aspire One that I love. It came preloaded with Win 7 Starter. It takes a little getting used to (no personalization), but I do all my projects on it and it has a huge hard drive.
  • i love acer one happy too!

i want to buy one soon but my HP is still working fine

about the operating system, most notebooks already come with pre-installed OS

so you don't need to worry about that

the manufacturers have already chosen the most appropriate os for the notebook's specs

    • Manufacturers are concerned about sales, not necessarily the 'most appropriate' operating system.

I run XP, works, no complaints.
