I don't know why, but I work best listening to funk. Parliament, War, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool & The Gang.... you know, groovin stuff.

This tune has been in my head all day.

The Funk is my #1 genre but I like to mix it up with the best of many different genres such as...

    - Early Jazz
    - Big Band
    - Music of the 1950's - Early Rock & Doo Wop
    - Girl Groups
    - Classic Rock
    - The Brits
    - Jazz Fusion
    - 4th Of July Music
    - Live Recordings
    - Classical
    - Hip Hop
    - The Crooners
    - Ladies

Even old school NFL Highlight music!

My Itunes account has almost 80 different playlists of artists and genres and a total of almost 1,000 songs.

If i'm having a hard time getting motivated it's early AC/DC. Really loud. It's hard not to feel a little bit pumped with that blasting out

When I'm working along nicely i listen to dj rap or kate bush.

If i'm doing something a bit tedious i go all 70s rock, free, led zep, thin lizzy etc.

      I struggle with silence

If I'm doing actual work, I want it as quiet as possible. No music at all, no TV, no nothing. That's why I tend to be extremely nocturnal. The world leaves me to myself when it's sleeping.

If I'm brainstorming, or just hanging out, it can be almost anything. A buddy of mine and his girlfriend came over one night recently. They'd gotten used to me listening to country. I wish I had a picture of the look on her face when they walked in and I had the Ramones on at head-banger volume.

Perfect brainstorming music: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Alice Cooper, Delbert McClinton, Miles Davis, anything with John Coltrane, and Chris Ledoux's "What You Gonna Do With a Cowboy."

You and I are a lot alike in that respect.

I've even gotten into wearing earplugs sometimes. I get the little foam ones. You roll them to compress them and they expand when you insert them in your ears. It's like sensory deprivation and all I can hear is my own heartbeat and breathing. That's when I do my deepest and most creative thinking or writing.

I only listen to music when I feel like being distracted. Never could work with music blaring.

It depends in my mood. I usually want my environment to be completely quiet. I can't work even if the noise is too low. That's what I am during weekdays when I am usually exhausted with tons of work. But during weekends, since I don't have heavy workload, I love listening to Tupac.

Depends on what kind of work I'm doing. If I'm writing, I either want it quiet or want some soft background music with no lyrics. New age or classical is usually the choice. If I'm brainstorming I either like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paul Black and the Flip Kings, and Johnny Winters type of blues; or I like dramatic, epic style music -- the kind you often hear in movies. If I'm answering emails or visiting forums, I like talk radio.

Nocturnal here, too. I like the night for writing. Something happens to the mind at night - it just seems to run deeper.

When I'm online during the day, I don't do music, but when I leave with the dog for a walk or an adventure, the headphones are in place and something very hardcore rock is blaring in my ears. Once in a while I will be in the mood for something less intense like Savatage, Rush, Roger Daltrey, or Tool -- but for the most part I like very hard driving rock and roll. Makes me step lively.

    Funkayyy to the max!

I listen to all kinds of music, but most contemporary music distracts me too much. The only music I can listen to whilst retaining my concentration is classical, and sometimes some celtic instrumental stuff. Film scores, too. They're alright.

It depends.... I like it to be dead silent when I work, if I get up early in the morning before the kid's wake up. However, there are many times when I am working through noise. My husband tries to take the kid's to the park as much as possible so I can get work done.

I like to listen SKA when I am working. It makes me comfortable and relax. I think it's good if you listen music while working because you can also get some idea specially if you write articles. LOL. but there are really people who are not comfortable and unease when they are listening to music while working. It just proves that you really can't serve two masters at the same time.
