How Do YOU Sleep At Night?

Have you ever noticed how many people assume that because we are in the IM-niche, we should have trouble sleeping at night.

A couple weeks ago, a fellow was saying that he bought a new house in a new neighborhood that he is paying for with his Internet earnings. All of his neighbors assume he is a drug dealer, since he never leaves his house.

I get that too, but my neighbors say that "I make my wife support me, because I am too lazy to work."

Just this week, another person on the forum said that his family keeps asking when he is going to get a real job. LOL

On the other side of the coin:

Another poster asked if it was okay for him to lie in sales copy, because everyone else in this industry lies too.

Several posters claimed that article marketing is a scam or article marketing is dead, even ordinarily smart people. (You all know who I am talking about. )

Several people suggested that many marketers fill the Internet full of garbage, because they allow their greed for money to take priority over every other person on the Internet.

Another gentlemen argued with me about whether it was acceptable to copy-n-paste content written by someone else for inclusion in the forum, without giving due credit to the author, implying to some readers by absence of due credit that he authored the content.

Everyone in the IM-industry is dishonest, right?

Wrong.

When I sleep at night, I sleep well... Except for those damn bathroom runs in the middle of the night... LOL

When I sleep during the day, I sleep well then also... Except for the bathroom breaks...

That is the only thing I hate about aging, the need to run to the bathroom a couple times during my sleep, regardless of whether I am sleeping during the day or night.

I don't always sleep at night, but I always sleep well --as well as someone my age can be expected to sleep.

I tend to believe that the vast majority of people who work online are honest, fine, upstanding people.

But sometimes, we are all overcome with negative thinking...

We see so many newbies come into the forum, expecting that success is only one magic button away. Someone sold them the lie that they can get rich working online in their pajamas, working only an hour a day.

Yet, those of us who have made it know better.

Those of us who have made it have worked hard for years to make what we have today.

And we will continue to work hard into the future.

Sure, many of us guys still fantasize about making so much money online that we could retire to a beach in Mexico, with a 20-yo woman on each arm. But then we wake up to wives and kids and the our real goals and dreams.

We wake up to the realization that while two 20-yo women could be double the pleasure, we also realize that two women would also be double the irritation, and worse, double the nagging.

There really are two worlds in the IM community.

There is one side that thinks the answer to all wealth and success is one magic button away. They just have to figure out what the "secret" is that everyone else has used to "make it". They are busy trying to figure out how they can "take" their piece of the pie.

The other side knows that wealth and success is "earned". This group understands that all things are possible, if you are willing to work hard to "give" real value to others...

It really is that easy. On this planet, there are "givers" and "takers". If you want to be successful online, you must become a "giver" and quit being a "taker".

This is a simple enough concept right?

So let me ask you: "How Do YOU Sleep At Night?"

  • I sleep like a baby - I wake up every two hours crying and hungry and in need of a change of clothes.

It's an old joke but a goody.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Thanks for the nice article.

To answer your question: I sleep excellent at night.

And yes, you are right, the vast majority of people you meet online and offline are honest, nice and helpful. There are only very few rats and hyenas around.

    PS:
Regarding running to the bathroom, maybe you can try to leave out tea or coffee a few hours before going to sleep. Works for me.

    • You are right. That is my actual issue. And then I swig down half a glass just before I lay down. LOL

  • I usually sleep on my side.

In a little arc because the bed is not long enough......

    • I feel as though I need to send you a new bed...memory foam? It'll change your life...
  • Yep I sleep fine

Slept like a log - woke up in the fireplace.

    • Sleep.

      I've heard about that...
    • All my life I've slept well at times - but then had weeks of insomnia. With IM, it's not a problem. If I can't sleep some nights I just pick my book back up and keep reading. After all, I don't have to use an alarm clock and can sleep in if I need to. I live on MY schedule:p

Problem solved. Odd thing is - now that sleeplessness is not a problem - I seldom have trouble sleeping. Go figure.

  • my neighbors too make comments on what I do when they knew that I make money on the Internet. They don't understand the word "Internet Marketing" in the way it should be. I just told them that I am a business consultant and always busy with my clients on the Internet and that brings a lot of money (which is many times greater than a 9 - 5 employee make). That just increased the respect they had on me. And they never made any comments on me after "hearing" this. LOL!
  • I get totally the opposite.

When I tell people that I run an internet based bass guitar teaching business, they have a million questions. How do you do that? How do you make money? How much time do you spend? Etc Etc etc.

And quite a few ask how THEY can do it. (Coaching a couple...)

As to sleeping at night, 6 to 7 pints of guinness takes care of that!
  • When it comes to sleeping, it's the same as is with IM, I have mi good nights and I have some bad nights.
  • Yes.

That's the point where Hugh Hefner divorces them and finds two new 20-year-olds.

"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times."

    Someone brought pie?

    Generally with my eyes closed.

    • Hi Bill,

Because of your spiritual headline I stopped here. By skimming your thread I see where are you coming from. The phenomena you described aren't unfamiliar to me, as well.

An outside observer who can only send e-mails to friends, may be surprised by what we do. It also implies that they do not considered this activity as 'normal' work. Work means to them what they make from nine to five.

I can understand them, anyway. I also made that myself for 33 years. I became an entrepreneur after that period (it's more than twenty years ago). And I didn't know what this entails at all. But, I wanted to make something new. Wanted to learn. Therefore, I commenced. I fell flat on several times, but this is no longer visible on my nose.

I asked others how they do it. There was who helped, other isn't. While I made, I learned, as well. Later, came that point where others asked me how I became successful. And I replied to everyone, as I could. Then I realized, they would like if I make the work instead.

      LOL. But, enough about me.

Concerning the existing two worlds in the IM community: it also entertains, sometimes annoys me, when I see people seek the 'magic' button, but do not find that. I also had time to figure out, it does not exist. Some will not like what I say, but you must pay the price for everything.

And it is also a simple formula, isn't it?

      Anyway, I sleep well.

      Cheers,

      Sandor
  • "Just this week, another person on the forum said that his family keeps asking when he is going to get a real job. LOL"

I guess this will depend on earnings. If you're pulling in 300k a year from IM, then no one is going to tell you to get a real job. If you're only making $1,000 a month then I guess you will get the nay-sayers who will think your time could be put to better use.
  • I would sleep better if my neighbors weren't so noisy, but other than that I have no trouble. Then again, my experience has been more in line with Paul's (above).

And as a straight woman, I think I'd have a heart attack if I woke up with two 20-year-old women. :-)

    • I have been thinking about value lately. Even wrote a bit about it in another thread the other day.

I think if at the end of my day, if I figure I delivered good value to the folks who went to my sites, read my articles, took action on what I suggested or whatever things there might be, I sleep pretty well.

I have found that some people do not like what I produce, or don't like the structure of my sites or don't like the fact that I use a laser mouse or give me a hard time because I am forever spelling "because" as "becuase", well, I can live with that.

But I have always figured that any kind of sales, whether its ideas or goods or information, the point is to deliver more value than what the customer paid for. That seems like a good way to build a relationship that will last.
  • My select comfort bed almost guarantees that I sleep well at night.

    RoD

p.s. I hear you on the "drug dealer" thing. My neighbors thought I was one for the longest time until I invited them to my nephews birthday party (they have a kid about the same age) and we got to know each other. I showed him my home office and explained what I do. He didn't know what a "dating coach" was so (one of the niches I'm in) I had to break it down for him.

"It's just that, you're seldom home, you come and go as you please, and my wife and I always see different women over at your place." The male neighbor said to me.

"That's no dealer neighbor," I replied, "That's called big pimpin' buddy.....".
  • I REALLY don’t know how I sleep at night because I’m sleeping…….
    • [ 2 ] Thanks

  • Hey Bill,

I know there are people that do those things (lie and cheat etc.) but I think they're the minority and usually get to a point where they have to re-evaluate. Like some of the recent bloggers that are doing videos where they apologise for all their lying and cheating and promise it's in the past.

Who really wants to be looking over their shoulder wondering if their business is about to disappear?

I think if people put as much effort into focusing on the positive things going on as they do the negative - more people would be making money.

  • Sleep is for broke people! LOL! I sleep pretty well now at night. I stay up late though...I'm a night owl. I have found that 5 or 6 hours a day of sleep is all I need.

I am very fortunate to have a wife and family and friends who understand what it is I am doing and they think it's awesome. They don't tell me to go find a real job etc.
  • Four hours a night is about all I have gotten since I was 20. I am an insomniac and have seen every movie ever made.

  • Great thread.

The Warrior Forum is the ONLY place I can actually talk to people who also work from home full time. When do we ever get to talk about work with anyone in the flesh. It's exciting when I DO meet someone who has the same kind of job.

I sleep fine, but I have no desire to sleep in anymore, because I'm revved up to get back to work writing, or whatever.

My brother is always mentioning that he has a REAL JOB. Many people think I am a scammer or something, or I run porn sites. It's a bad joke.

Some think we are day traders, and when I try to explain what we do for a living, their eyes start to glaze over.

My wife just tells people that we look after dogs. Invisible dogs.
  • I work my tail off to help others. Why should I have difficulty sleeping at night?

    • Usually I sleep very well.

However I admit - sometimes it can be hard to sleep when I have a lot of excitement about new ideas to implement for internet marketing.

I sometimes can't help but brainstorm before bed, which can be a great time to be creative but also can lead to a little restlessness.

To help with this I usually meditate to clear my mind before falling asleep which helps a lot.

Also keeping a small notepad to record thoughts I have helps so I don't have to rely on my memory the next morning.

  • Gotta say "thanks guys". This post is fun! Great to start my day.
  • No sleeping troubles here! In fact, I sleep better now than ever!
  • Pretty crap sleeping now cause it's so darn hot!!!!!

Generally though I sleep ok, I often wonder how well all the dishonest people sleep, but to be honest I don't think they care about their dishonesty so I doubt it would affect their sleep!
  • I have trouble slping at night. But not because I am dishonest or unethical, I have trouble slping because I have the tenancy to ask myself what can I do better. It may not be for improving the quality of the content, it could be to improve my sales funnel, to think 2- 3 years ahead of what I am doing now.

I guess we are been 'misunderstood' because of the barrier of entry. I mean, it's not difficult to get into the IM industry. Practically anyone can get into the IM niche. And when we went in, we brought along our character, experience, upbring and what's not.

Point is, it really depends on the individuals. I am sure this situation isn't unique in the IM niche. Any niche that has low barrier of entry do suffer from this problem.

For me, my adversary is my mum. She thinks that I am just someone who slacks at home doing nothing. But you can't blame her though, most people think this way to. To them, if you are not out working, you are lazy and useless.

They do not understand fundamentals like 'leverage', 'passive income' and most importantly, the idea of a 'free agent'.
  • Hey, guys, if you get up too often at night there's a pill for you, Flomax. I'm not a pill pusher and I try to avoid pills as much as possible. I was prescribed Flomax for other reasons a while ago and it does the trick at night. In fact, as of this year there is a generic equivalent for Flomax, which costs me $15 every three months (your insurance plan might be different, but if you get the generic, which think is called Oxybutynin, it won't cost a lot). Be aware that once you start taking this pill you'll have to take it for the rest of your life. But if it means only one trip per nite to the potty it's worth considering.
  • Those people probably work a j.o.b. they don't like and have a very limited ceiling on their income. They may be resigned to the fact they will always be just over broke and resent it.

And I sleep very well. Unless the dog wakes me up to take her out.
  • Sleep???.... Like a baby!....Just gotta make sure it's not too late!! zzzzzzzzzz

    • So you wake up every couple of hours screaming?

  • At first I will sleep face to the sky, and then turn left and right without control.
  • Honestly, I can't sleep without the covers over my head lol... How do people not?! I guess the light or whatever binds my eyes and so I always see part of it through my eyelids if you know what I'm talking about but even though because it messes up my eyebrows LOL! Any suggestion? It's a habit...
