I would expect that it is FREE! VERY EASY! You become a US government office, and register it! When you figure out how to do that, let us know!

The easiest way I have heard of is to become a US representative, and then you could get a third level GOV domain! You could then campaign, get a law passed, and get a 2nd level GOV domain!

BTW mil works in a similar fashion. Apparently, they have allocated EDU such that it isn't that different.

Stop and think. The .gov is short for government. Are you the government?

In other words, individuals can't register .gov domains. Can you imagine the nightmare for citizens trying to determine if a .gov site was really a legitimate government site or not if just anybody was allowed to register them? Can you imagine how many foreign entities would register .gov sites? Can you imagine all the scams?

    Thank man, think.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

You know, I FORGOT! You COULD get an office in a US state, and get a third or fourth level gov domain! Sorry, I forgot about that! Scott Brown, for example, could have had a 4l in MA, and a 3l in the US.

    Caleb,

Dennis mispoke. Gov means US government. MIL means US military. The US DID come up with this, and originally control it. They have given up everything else, except .US, of course. So other countries end up having to use ISO2 codes, for such things. Canada's ISO2 code is CA, for example. Apparently gc.ca is a big canadian equivalent to .mil or .gov.

GC.CA isn't respected by Google like .gov.

Well, CANADA and CANADIANS have some benefits that Americans don't. C'est la vie.

    For Australia, we use:

    xxxxx.gov.au for federal government sites

    xxxxx.vic.gov.au for state government sites
