I think she means 8gb ( which are really common), can't remember seeing a 8mb flash drive that would store a "bunch" of databases.

They haven't in many, many years. Although, I still have the hard drive from my first PC sitting in a box and it's 800MB. lol.. Not going to use it though since it would serve absolutely no purpose. I already have well over 2500GB of storage on my pc so a measly 800MB would be a joke. haha

8GB is a LOT of space really! I STILL remember a time around 1999 or so when I went to a computer show asking about a hard disk drive that the person LAUGHED AT! She asked how could ANYONE need SO MUCH SPACE! It was a 5.24" hard disk at a time quite a while after they standardized on 3.5"! So HOW big was that incredibly large drive? About 2.5GB! It is hard to believe I could buy about 3TB now for about the same price.

So 8GB is a pretty good size.

I remember when i got my first computer, i think it was mid-late 90's and i paid 200 bucks extra for windows 98 special edition, 2 usb ports (nobody here had them then) and a whopping 4 gig hard drive.

People told me "you'll never use all that space" and that i wasted my money on that useless new tech, the usb port. The next year the iMac came out and brought usb to the masses.

Well, you have to be careful about early adoption, etc... My third drive was an 80MB drive! It was a FULL HEIGHT 5.25" drive! Most of you guys have probably NEVER seen a FULL HEIGHT 5.25" drive. Almost every 5.25" drive made was HALF height or LESS! Anyway, soon after that they had faster, quieter, cooler, and just BETTER 80MB+ drives in HALF height. And my fourth floppy drive was one that was not to really be beat for about 6 YEARS! But they decided customers, like me, weren't important! They tooled up for a customer, IBM, and apparently IBM pulled out, and they went under. That was too bad. If they had survived, we might have had MUCH larger floppies in the mid 80s. I actually got what might have been one of the very last controllers they made! I got it from a person that worked there, to replace one I had. SHE told me the sad story about WHY they were going under.

Drives have come a LONG way though. My first 3 drives were 5MB, 30MB, and 80MB. My last drive was 500GB, as I recall, and my next one will probably be over 2TB! The sad part is that due to bandwidth, obsolescence, lack of space in the past, etc... I probably only have about 400GB worth of stuff 8-( You have to realize my current laptop only has 160GB. 8-( Listen to me... ROTFLMBFAO! ONLY!!!!!!! I tried to take every unique occurrence of everything, and back them up to my 500GB drive.

My first computer was a xerox something or other... just the motherboard. A number of us where I worked got a really good deal on the boards, so we were all going to build our own. It didn't even have a hard drive, I had two 8" floppy drives instead. I bought an empty circuit board and assembled an add-on board that brought the ram all the way up to 256K... I still have the half height 19" rack-mount I bought for the floppy drives... Come to think of it the drives are still out in the garage, too. (The metal recycle guys wouldn't take it with the circuit boards attached.)

My next computer, years later, was a 286 with a 40MB hard drive running MS-DOS. It had to be partitioned because the largest drive the computer could handle was 32MB...

Man, what a trip down memory lane.

The 32MB limit was an M/S DOS one! The clusters were a SOMEWHAT modest size. They improved space later by making the clusters bigger. That means smaller files WASTE more space. The actually didn't finally FIX the problem until NTFS which was on Windows NT and Win2000. Of course, the 286 probably doesn't run NT very well. 8-(

  I would put that flash drive in a safe place and not do anything with it (for now). And then I would be on the look out for "Lost" adverts or posters. The data on that drive may be very important to someone.

Just a warning to Warrior's - be careful when you buy USB Flash Drives from the internet or a marketstall.

My friend purchased an 8GB model from eBay only to find that it was only 2GB even though it said it was 8, and anything over 2GB would get deleted from the pen.

Only buy USB Flash Drives from reputable companies. Personally I use SanDisk and have never had an issue of any kind, they make excellent drives.
