Ok, I just downloaded firefox beta 4.0 - and normally these upgrades don't excite me too much. But this thing has actually sped up my surfing! I swear it feels like pages are loading at least 40% faster. I like the new layout as well, a lot like chrome.

Ok, enough nerd-ranting - back to work.

Well, that's good news. It had gotten so slow and buggy I quit using it.

That sounds good, we'll see how it turns out once it gets released.

I really couldn't stand using Firefox anymore since it just took too much time to load. Chrome just pops up once I click on it and that's what I expect of a browser.

Thank you for sharing this information, I'll definitely look forward to the release of Firefox 4.

A lot of great stuff has landed in Firefox 4 on the UI front over the past few days — combined stop/go/reload buttons, in-tab progress bars, hovered URLs in location bar, theme fixes & more. The release clearly shaping up to be a great one, but there are always more things that could be improved.

Downloaded the Beta and it's definitely faster! But since it doesn't support my Add-ons right now, I won't be getting rid of the current stable release.

Memory consumption is significantly higher though, at least on my system. 3.6.14 used about 26,000K, while 4.0 Beta 12 is at 53,800K.

The trouble is as soon as you start to add in the add-ons it will get slow and buggy again.

Can't wait for the full release. I really don't like the idea of Google having so much market share in the browser market. I want firefox to win!...

Of and BTW, ie 9 is fast too!

The thing that has always bothered me with FireFox is the way it just nags incessantly - Come on - if I click a link that must mean I want to go there - why in the hell do I have to respond to a nag every time?

However, I do like the way NoScript has improved in that when you are blocked you can see the little S with a line through it and know you need to 'temporarily allow this site' - I do appreciate security but not to the point where I can't function.

I do like the look with the new themes in FireFox - I have a spiffy red theme with fireworks - wahoo!

If it is going to load faster and etc I might try it again - if I ever figure out how to turn off the nags.

I like speedy little Chrome alright - however lately it has a few issues with caching - but just takes a refresh.

Firefox 4 is great. The only thing is though, Screengrab is not compatible with it. Have to use Screensnatch now, which I think is inferior.

Yeh, it sounds like a big improvement, but without the add-ons its not really Firefox.
Hope they release the final version already.

  • 1) Where the heck is my status bar? I like the status bar!
    2) You can't save your tabs when closing anymore unless you install a plug-in.

I'm not having any problems with my plug-ins except for Divx HQ.

And when they heck are they gonna fix that friggin' memory leak, already! Geez, it's annoying. It's a very simple fix, after all.

Still feels(i haven't done or seen an official benchmark) slower than Chrome, and it's interface is still far worse than Chrome.
Firefox should let go of the 90s tradition interface if it wants to survive.
