Christmas Trees Fake or Real

Which do you prefer?
My Wife, Son and I go out every year and search for the best live tree to cut and drag back home. I hate to cut one down but, also dislike trying to haul a balled and burlapped tree home. I grew up with a fake one my entire life and just don't want to go that route as long as I am able to take my son out and cut our own. Traditions have to start somewhere for now it's cutting of the unfortunate live tree.

So you celebrate Christmas by murdering a poor innocent tree?
Just kidding, we've almost always had a real tree. Tried the fake ones a few times, but they just suck I think.
Don't have any tree now a days which is kinda sad really.

A real tree by all means. There's enough fake to the season any more.

You can get real trees with the roots and can plant them after the season. If you buy one from a lot they are grown on farms specifically for that reason so you're not wiping out forestry. If you are just going to the woods and cutting, you might want to consider taking a young tree back to that spot later that year and planting it. Pines grow very fast.

My wife is a neat freak and always had fake trees before we met. Myself,I always had a live tree. So we compromised over the years till as the kids got older we went with the fake more and more.
This year my wife said we were having a real tree in celebration of life,but with so many things going on we ended up with the fake one out again after all.
I am tempted to go out and repalce it with a real one one dqy while she is at work .

When I was young we had a fake tree. Now, we have started a tradition to go out and get a real one. They smell so good in the house! Brings the holiday spirit to the house a bit.

I grew up with real trees throughout my life...my husband was the opposite, he grew up with fake trees. When we moved in together I won the battle and we have had a real tree every year!!!

  I prefer real (and small size) trees but they cost way too much out here. So I am settled for no tree and I replace it by putting Christmas deco around the house.
  
  I even put out my own traditional little wooden house with St. Joseph and Mary along with the other characters, the shepherds and the animals. I will add baby Jesus on the 25th and the 3 Magi on Epiphany day.
  
  Maybe some day all the Christmas trees will be cheap again to buy who knows?

It has to be real or forget it. To me it is about the smell more than anything else.

Living tree of course is way the preference.

I don't really have room for a tree and am a bit of a crumudgeon/scrooge about the whole plastic 'Christmas' idea.

I go dumpster diving in my complex after everyone dumps their poor dead perfectly healthy trees. I cut off branches and keep them around and in potpourri until they turn yellow.

I might go so far as to buy a wreath and keep that for several years.

I always wish Jesus Happy Earth Birthday

I live in South Africa where pine trees are being cleared by order of the state since they soak up so much water. They are considered alien vegetation. Have a heart, us a real tree. Put it to good use.

I have a nice black tree with silver lights, it goes with my living room. Real trees create too much mess I think, and we have a dog who may start eating the pine needles as well (she eats anything)

This reminded me of a cocker spaniel I once had who on a rainy Christmas week, thought we brought a tree inside for him so he wouldn't have to get wet feet.

He proceeded to lift his leg all around the tree and hit almost every gift under the tree.

...and a Merry Christmas from the dog!

I like the real trees but unfortunately here in South Australia they are hard to get and quite expensive as many have died because of our continuing drought.

Can anyone spare some water? Will trade for gallons of wine.

I'm from Maine and I can't imagine having a fake tree. It seems so wrong. I'm more than happy to clean up a mess for the holiday essence a real tree brings to Christmas.

As a matter of fact, we just put up ours yesterday. The house smells great! :-)

Mine's fake, because most of our apartments aren't big enough to get the nice big ones and if we tried to cut down a nice looking real tree we'll be spending Christmas in jail.

Growing up we would drive a half mile to the Christmas tree farm and cut our own. I loved the smell of fresh pine. Of course the needles would make a mess once it started to dry out.

But now we live in the dessert so we have a nice fake one. They make some really nice imitation trees these days.

Every year fires start due to Christmas trees. Whatever you decide to get don't leave the lights plugged in at night or when you are away.

I'm the weird one cause I don't have a tree at all, real or fake.

It does save a lot of hassle. Don't have to worry about setting it up then taking it down. Not like anyone but me would see it anyway so it seems pointless.

There was Christmas long before Christmas trees became a tradition so it's no big deal to me.
