Hello everyone!

I've bought a new core i5 Acer unit having 4gb ddr3 and 640Gb Hdd and 2gb graphic card and finally windows 7 home premium.
I need to install some interesting softwares in it. Can anyone suggest me best softwares for windows 7 64 bit.? I need to install anti virus also.. which one is the best?
Suggestions will be appreciated...

What, you bought it just to show off? BTW I have been lucky so far, but perhaps 97% of the 32 bit software I have runs on it FINE! I won't lie, I have at least 4 packages that HAVE failed because it is 64 bit. MOST say right away. ONE, erwin 3.5 OF ALL THINGS, just gives me a memory pointer error.

Lol back after exams, well can you tell me what I will get by showing off? I've just opened thread to take better suggestions from those who are already using these type of units.
Anyways I've never tried any software yet because of exams but at very initial antivirus still annoying me. I've tried 32 bit symmantec but not supporting 64 bit.

MSE will be fine for antivirus, as long as you use either Firefox or Chrome.

Dropbox is the coolest program ever - basically you'll never need a flash drive again. I love it so much.

I don't think there are any specific 64-bit programs to recommend; 64-bit simply means you can take advantage of more than 4gb of RAM.

Actually, NO IT DOESN'T! 64Bit ALSO means registers can be larger, which means that some software may be incompatible, etc... It ALSO means that system values are larger so software with smaller variables COULD fail.

ALSO, the O/S doesn't access memory for programs, but gives it to the programs, which means the programs CAN'T access over 4GB(usuaklly 2GB) unless THEY are 64bit ALSO.

AND all this ignores the fact that programs can't access over 4GB of data unless THEY use larger registers. That means they should use different instructions which allwos them to use others and that means they can't even be used on 32 bit processors anymore.

And all this is simply because intel's forune is built on a platform that they can't just abandon, so the latest i7 is STILL fully backwards compatible with the 8086 which, by todays standards, is a primitive near worthess toy. But peripheral cards and BIOS ALSO have 8086 code and, in fact, HAVE to have 8086 code, because that is the default mode of all 8086 family processors, right up to the i7. Of course, windows software has switched out of that mode ASAP since about windows 95.

In short, incompatibilities can exist, etc...

HECK, erwin's memory failure may be SOLELY due to picking up the initial address improperly, because it is 64 bit, and erwin expects 32bit. And erwin is EXPENSIVE! WOW, I guess they lowered the price. It is now LESS than $5K CA ERwin® Data Modeler r8 Of course, the version I have is much older. It was expensive even then though.
