UK Amazon commission cap sucks! 0.48% commission!

I just had to share my disappointment with a sale I recently made.

I sold an item costing £1,449 through one of my Amazon sites but I only made £7 commission because of the cap Amazon UK place on high value items.

Had I made this sale through the US Amazon commission structure I would have recieved £86 commission on the sale.

Looking at my Amazon earnings report I have been given 0.48% commission :-(

Rant over, I feel better now... well not really!

    I promote UK too and have not had any orders that large. in fact my largest was a netbook for around £200, which obviously still yielded me 50% less commission than I would have gotten with Amazon US.

    But I target the UK market for different reasons - I feel I connect better with them. I think I can sell better to fellow brits than Americans. Also the American affiliate market is saturated by comparison. Also our commission starts at 5% where theirs starts at 4%.

    There are pros and cons for both - I just dont promote high ticket items (they're harder to sell anyway)

    As I understand it the cap isn't on the items but the commission. You can not earn more than £7.00 per sale, no matter how much the item costs.

      Dude, ditch Amazon UK and promote for Amazon US. I live in the UK and I don't promote items on Amazon UK for this very reason.

      I suppose Amazon UK can work if your model is to sell lots of low ticket items. But you can sell low ticket items in the US as well, and what happens when someone who arrives at your site through a low-ticket-item keyword, then clicks through and buys something huge?

      On Amazon UK you get ripped off for every high ticket item you sell.

    I really don't get it, why would the people running Amazon in the UK decide that the most an affiliate can earn is £7?

    I mean, it not only makes no seance but who came up with the figure of £7?

    Apparently the cap wasn't always there, it's like they just decided one day to stop the Amazon affiliates in the UK from making a good income from the program.

    I just created a £1,449 sale for them & they're saying all that's worth is 0.48%

    Here's another thing... with Amazon in the US to gain the high commission level you need to sell 3,000 items in that month but with Amazon UK you need to sell 30,000+ to reach the top commission level.

    Again, why do the UK Amazon affiliates need to sell 28,000 items more than the US affiliates for the top commission?

    I think I'll drop Amazon UK an email to ask them, see what their answers are.

    Well, it IS a US company based only in the US, right? That means UK costs are HIGHER, and there is less certainty as to profit day to day.
