In one morning he's managed to figure out how to open baby-proofing locks on cupboards, to unlock the cell phone and send incoherent email messages to my friends.

LOL! Sounds familiar... my son is two and we let him talk to the telemarketers whenever they call.

Wait until he opens doors by himself! LOL

    How old is your boy?

10 months old. He is managing to open doors, drawers, you name it. I have a recording of him screaming that I play when telemarketers call.

Give him a toy squirt gun that looks like a real gun, and let him open the door with you covertly watching. Can you imagine how the sales person would react!?

NAW, I wouldn't suggest that, but it was funny thinking about!

It may be time to contain him with baby gates.

    For example...

In my home there are 2 entrances to the family room.

We put a gate at both entrances, made sure there were no sharp objects around, our short table in the room had round edges ( great for learning how to walk ) and made sure she couldn't ever knock the TV over on herself.

She couldn't swallow any of her toys etc.

Then I could cook in the kitchen, talk on the phone, etc. without having to worry about if she was safe.

We also had a gate at the top of the stairs.

    Have fun - I did.

One thing most kids NEVER figure out is those child proof locks! I mean REALLY one question often pondered is....

WHY are they called CHILD PROOF!?!?!?

Did you know that pharmacies, for YEARS now offer caps to REPLACE "child proof" caps with bigger ones with no tricks, for ADULTS!? It's TRUE! They have larger hands and older people may not be able to push well or steady enough, so the childproof caps keep THEM out!

Frankly, I am almost shocked they are still around. When I was a kid, some adults, even younger ones, DID ask me to open their medicine. Go figure!

As for unlocking the cell phone? What cell phone has locks? I mean REAL ones that can't be pocket dialed like the poor excuse for one Blackberry has!

Android doesn't count either, as a child may quickly turn on the phone, see the arrow, and may unlock it. ESPECIALLY if the saw someone else doing the motion.
