Children With Disorders or Behavior Issues

I had another post about this quite a while ago and I wanted to get an idea if anyone was interested in a forum for parents with 'difficult' children.

Anyway, I got a fairly good response from here and from my blog readers so I finally got around to creating a forum. It's fairly basic and I only just created it today, so it's fairly bare too.

My Beautiful Boy Forum - Index

If anyone has children with disorders or behavior issues I would love to have you join the forum. Even if your children are now adults I'm sure you can still share some advice or tips.

I'm also open to suggestions for any new boards to add to the forum.

Dealing with the Schools would be a good forum section. That was where I had the hardest time.

Also perhaps a spot for those who KNOW there is something wrong but are still fighting to get an accurate diagnosis. That was another area that was frustrating to me.

Yes Tina that frustrates me too, my son has never been 'diagnosed' with anything - one psychologist told us although she believes he has Aspergers he doesn't need a diagnosis because it isn't affecting his schooling. I'm guessing that she means he isn't interrupting the other kids, because I believe it affects his schooling since he flat out refuses to go half the time!

    Thanks for your input

I didn't like going to school either and refused half the time. It wasn't because of the work though or the teachers. It was mostly because of certain kids I didn't get along with. Most kids keep stuff like this secret though. They won't reveal the exact reason why they hate school. But it does usually come down to popularity. School is a popularity contest first, education comes second.

    It is a great idea.

Your domain name has a nice personal touch. That said its subject matter is not obvious in the name and I'm kind of wondering if it could make some feel excluded? What about people with girls who have behavioral problems? It could be that more more work branding?

Oh you have a good point there. I really just used this name because my own blog about my son is 'My Beautiful Boy' so I just added the forum onto that domain.

Maybe I'll get a new domain just for the forum - thanks, I hadn't even thought of that.

I'd also be interested in a forum for dysfunctional adults, but I've just remembered that there is already one of those here.

Seriously though, it sounds like a great idea Sheryl, all the best with it.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I'll visit your site because i see it's like we are doing the same thing, i believe it is helpful.
Children do misbehave and sometimes parents try to control them but they finally give up without doing anything but this depends on the friends and the relationship between them and their parents,
sometimes it does happen due to stress and influence.

Ok, I've put this out there on the main forum but I'll ask here too. I'm trying to decide on a domain name, here are some I've come up with:

    1. ParentingDifficultKids.com
    2. OurBeautifulKids.com
    3. OurExceptionalKids.com
    4. ParentingDifficultChildren.com
    5. EffectiveParentingForum.com
    6. ParentingSupportForum.com

    I can't decide - I need some opinions please

Ok I've chosen a name and it was none of the above. I am going to change the forum to www.specialneedsparenting.net

That isn't targeted to just parents of boys and covering all aspects of special needs it targets a wider audience I think.

I'm going to bed now though so will have to install the forum tomorrow

      Sheryl,

I like the domain you picked out. I think it will get more organic traffic that way, as time goes on.

That's a good idea. So many parents think they're alone in dealing with things. I wish I'd had something like this 20 years ago!
