If I won the lottery, the very last thing on my mind would be WSOs. In fact, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make the list.

Lottery winnings should be spent wisely. LOL

While there are good WSO's, many could never be considered a wise investment.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

If I won the Lottery, I'd give a portion to my friends and family. Save some for a holiday and some spending money. And, take enough to get my business started.

The rest I would donate to charity.

I'd spend a small amount on family and myself and invest the rest. The odds may be 32,000,000 to 1, but somebody has to win, right?

I'm a man of my word.
Interesting response. However, your "word" is based on your current reality. You don't know what your reality will be a year, five years, or ten years from now if that's when you happened to win.

It's noble to be a man of your word, I can truly appreciate that, but ... how wise is it to insist nothing will change when life itself is change?

Suppose you win the lottery next year, but suppose your closest family member gets hooked on crack before you win. Are you going to give them a big wad of money so they can walk down their suicide-by-drugs path even faster?

You're too smart to do that.

Be careful about painting yourself into corners. Sometimes that's where the nasty stuff accummulates.

I would provide my kids with a nice education and create a plan that would reward them in a set amount of time for grades and amount they earn/save in that time.

I've always said I'd want only enough to help my kids work - but never enough so they'd never have to.

I'd help the local animal shelter become no-kill and invest the rest to support a modest lifestyle in stress free comfort in retirement.

maybe i would visit a public hospital near at our place. Pay the hospitalization bills of the people who cannot afford to pay their bills. Especially those who have cancer. And give them monthly allowance for their medications.

Yes, I still play the lottery but it is a lottery here in Ontario, Canada.

The first thing I would do, is give 10% to charity. This will be the first thing.

This would go to my favorite charity right now and it is called Tim Horton's Children's Foundation.

I love this topic and about once per year do a round with friends on it. One reason I love the topic is because for some time now, I've been at a place in my life where I realize I wouldn't do things very differently. I pretty much love what I'm doing and would continue doing it. I'd work somewhat less and devote more time to attending workshops and retreats, but I would continue to work at building an online business, teach workshops, and travel the world. Oh yeah, I'd spend some time learning about money and investment, and I'd spend some time giving money away to worthy causes. I don't want some huge honkin' fat bank account sitting there rotting, all just for little ol' me. I'd make use of that money to help this badly hurting world and try to add some benefit.

Yes, I can and do know. I wrote my goals down a long time ago, and while things in life certainly change and goals are sometimes modified, I would still stick with my original plan.

Wouldn't be any sense in making a plan in the first place if you weren't going to stick to it.

I'm sure most people would have very similar goals at first with the money (helping friends, family, a new car, etc.), but my main goal (or maybe the 'symbol of success' in my mind's eye) as an adult has always been to live quietly near the fjords of Sweden in my golden years.

I'm already quite confident I'll be able to achieve this goal, but winning the lottery would certainly hasten things and make my days less hectic.

A new house that I had custom built on a decent plot of land, a new car, money invested in my company, someone to run my company, take a 2 week vacation with a few friends, some new clothes, appliances and furniture for my new house, and possibly some investments if there are any that are relatively safe and will make money over a period of time.

    If I won the lottery:

    1. At least 1/4 would go into savings towards retirement or funds for when I have kids & they want to go to college.
    2. Invest more into my online biz
    3. Buy a plot of land next to a nice big lake out in the woods so I can enjoy my financial freedom in peace in my freshly built dream home.
    4. Buy a little boat to go with that lake.
    5. Help those in need. Not by giving someone my money so they can put 1/2 in thier pocket & do whatever, but by actually going out & paying for food to give to a shelter, show up to a place that just had a major disaster with water/ supplies to hand out, pay for an underprivilage kids college... personally make a difference in someone's life.
    6. Fly out all my good friends & have one heck of a party!
