Homelessness Come May Or June

Here I sit at 5:50 AM on St. Patrick's Day (wear green!) now browsing all around Google to find any tips on how to survive homelessness. How to deal with extreme heat and how to deal with extreme cold. You see, I originally was going to kick myself out of my parent's home if I couldn't get out there on my own before I'm 30, but my stepdad has shortened that to just three months. Simply because he told me to get a job or else. You see, getting a job for me is way, WAY out of the question. I just CAN'T GET ONE. Because I would get terminated a month later for "working too slow". This happened on my last two jobs and it would happen again. Not to mention I don't want to have that feeling of failure and worthlessness again. Actually, I have that feeling of failure and worthlessness now haha. I told my stepdad this, but he and my mom (who doesn't care about me anyways) still have the belief that I can get a job. I don't.

So this means that I will be selling my livelihood away. That means my music equipment, my video games, my computers, basically everything that I have to my name. Afterwards, I will be buying a few extra clothes, some self defense items (no firearms or anything haha), and some other small personal items. With the money I have, I can actually feed myself for at least a few months before I eventually starve to my slow and painful death.

You know, as bad as this may seem, I have to look at it as a good thing. I can finally give my parents one less thing to worry about. And while my sister and brother will be getting their own home this summer, I will be without a home. My brother already has an apartment of his own and my sister has had a home of her own but has had to move back in with my parents for various reasons which I don't want to explain.

I am in high spirits now. I've had 27+ years of life with a roof over my head. I've been to places I thought I'd never see in my life. One of them TWICE - Cedar Point. I've accomplished a lot. I've had a stunningly beautiful girlfriend (who I will unfortunately sever ties with soon). I've had great supportive friends, who I consider my real family. Brothers and sisters from other mothers. Notice I didn't put real in quotes. And now, I get to FINALLY move out of my parents' home at the same time my siblings do. Albeit on the street. And I'm thinking I wouldn't last an hour on the outside before I start to worry if I'm going to get jailed, beat up, or even killed. I know I will burn up in the summer and freeze to death in the winter.

So there is my riches to rags story. Time to enjoy the last several days on the inside. Wish me luck, and God Bless.

I am sorry for your troubles but I am even more sorry for your attitude. Everyone hates work but you can go flip a burger or to and keep a pay check. There is also labor ready who will pay you for one day temp services on that same day.

It will depend on how bad you want to stay off the streets that you will do everything to keep a job. It isn't the impossible thing that you are saying. Get the I don't want to and the I must do it in your head and you will succeed until you can do better.

      Hey, don't worry about it.

The world needs losers, otherwise we wouldn't have winners.

      Thanks for doing your part.

And the good news is you get to create your own reward.

My thoughts exactly.. I read thru OP's post wondering to myself if it were actually a joke.

I have been on both sides of the fence in my lifetime so I know what it's like from experience and I can tell OP no one will do it for you.. you need to change your attitude, go out and get a job and make an effort to change your life around.

Besides, it is OK to do something slower than most if you do it harder or better. Imagine they complain because you walk 1/2 the speed of other people moving furniture. If you can be careful, they may overlook it. If you carry half again as much, you are really doing 50% MORE work, and they can't complain. BTW if you have REALLY been around 3 years, you KNOW people here won't really help you with that.

Like BL said, your ATTITUDE is the part employers will HATE!

Sorry to hear your troubles but it could be the best thing to happen you. You have now a timescale to fend for yourself, nothing motivates more than necessity. You are not new to this forum you you have obviously learned a lot in your time here.
Sit down and divide your few months into weeks and days then set goals and go for it.

Keep positive and get motivated and everything else will fall into place.

Umm are you serious you're just going to give up like that?

As I was reading your post I stupidly began to feel sorry for you but then I remembered the **** I've dealt with in my life and I can tell someone as weak as you would of killed yourself a long time ago if you had my life.

Maybe your parents have a reason to not care about you, you don't even care about yourself.

I hope you reconsider your plans, things are usually never as bad as they seem.

Well, wouldn't that take the ability to focus over longer periods?

Perhaps a toaster monitor would be in line. Afterall, toast pops up all by itself.

Bill, I think I would go for a toaster oven monitor - it's a bit slower than the average toaster. It also comes with a window thus he can entertain himself and it may help him to keep his focus.

You were going to give yourself until age 30 to start being self supporting? Three more years of expecting parents to support you because you can't keep a job? No wonder your stepfather is frustrated - you aren't trying to find work. Who paid for the instruments, computer, etc? If your musical instruments are your "livelihood" - why don't make money with them?

The self pity is a bit much in this thread and in the similar thread a few weeks ago. Stop being helpless and start finding somewhere you CAN fit in and can work. If you don't have a job, you should spend 8 hrs a day looking for work right now until you do have a job.

Don't want a job because it will make you feel bad about yourself? It seems everything is everyone's fault but your own. You are an adult - time to start living like one.

If you are too slow, speed it up. If you can't speed up, find a job where you can move slower. Beginning to wonder what your forum name actually says about you.

I'm wondering the same thing as Paul - why are you slow? If you have a physical or mental disability, get yourself some help. There are agencies which look for jobs for people with such restrictions.

If you are slow just because you won't move faster, I can't sympathize. There are a lot of women my age on the forum who remember the days that you got fired if the boss wanted you to "put out" and you refused. Know what you feel like going to get another job after that happens? Jobs are managed by people and some are really freaking strange - sometimes it takes many jobs to find where you belong.

Find something you love that success isn't determined by speed but by skill or knowledge. You're in the WF - aren't you doing anything with your time here?
Refusing to be productive because of a few bad experiences will end up driving you bat **** crazy before very long. Everyone needs a purpose. Find it.

    Watterotter,

GOOD POINT! If you are going to go slowly, and keep getting fired, help out at a charity where they WILL pay your way. The WORST thing that can happen is that you help out a little and get credit for the veery EFFORT! The BEST is you can be seen by some nice person and get a LOT of tolerance, or work at what becomes a big part and become a world famous hero. HECK, I know one guy that got out of a building, saved some people, and had the presence of mind that possibly saved EVERY living person on at least that block.

SURE he was brave, and he didn't have to do it. He risked his life a little. I forget his name, but I know DOZENS may tell grandkids about that guy one day! That building, last I knew, was one story. The previous day it was THREE stories! And this ONE guy was the ONLY person with the knowledge and courage to trun off the Gas. And you know what? THAT was an earthquake ALSO, the 1994 northridge one.

HEY, look at the fukashima 50! THEY are being lauded left and right. If Japan doesn't become a chernobyl, THEY will get a lot of the credit. The plant would probably be far worse NOW if not for them.

The first thing you need to do is stop the pitty party and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Obviously your mom cares about you or she would not have let you, a grown man, live with her all this time.

There comes a time when grown kids have to get out on their own, grow up, fly the coup, stand on their own two feet. It's happened to all of us, and as parents, we do the same to our grown kids.

If you are disabled and unable to work, sign up for social security or SSI. if you are able to work but simply out of shape, make yourself get up and move and get into shape. There ARE jobs out there... it's just a matter of finding one and wanting to work.

Your parents are not being horrible to you for wanting you to get a job and get out on your own. It might sound that way to you now, but you will see it differently when you are the parent with the grown kid.

Find a job, save some money, get an apartment or rent a house... whatever you need to do to get on your own. It will bring you immense pride that you made it!

You need to understand that this is something we all have to go through in life... getting out of the nest and the comfort of mama feeding us and taking care of us. It's hard, that's a given. You'll get tougher. But you will make it, just like we all did.

You're talking about selling all this stuff. Sell what you don't need or have use for, put the money into getting a place to live instead of shopping for clothes and such. Where there's a will, there's a way. We all made it... you will too.

Monday morning, get up bright and early, get cleaned up, put on some fresh clothes, and go look for a job. Then when you are hired, do what you are hired to do. Save your paychecks, and go find a place to live.

You can do anything you want to do.

I don't agree. When someone is posting repeatedly on a forum (where working people gather) about how he can't work, others need to support him, others owe him, etc as this person has done....a good kick might work. No point in going to his pity party and supporting a "poor me" attitude. It reinforces his view of himself as a "victim".

Wild guess - from the forum name and constant references to "moving slow", could be the OP has obesity problems. If so, it's a problem with a solution. Not an easy or fast solution - but one no one can do for you.

I am erring on the side of caution as well. We are not all made the same way. Something that is trivial to one person could be "the end of the world" to another.

There are people who are intrinically happy and those who are intrinsically depressed for no particular reason. If you are really depressed, you will not be able to work properly. That is why I asked him to seek some professional help.

Hey Thunder, as others have noted this is at least the fifth "woe is me" thread he's started. Enough is enough.

Especially with seeing the devastation in Japan here is someone who refuses to get a job and is living off of his Mother and step-dad's work at the age of 27.

If you play the role of victim that's all you'll be. Unless there is some sort of medical condition which he hasn't mentioned he needs to suck it up and get a damn job.

I'm not tying to persuade anyone to do anything. Just giving an example as to why I have no patience for someone who refuses to get a job and feels sorry for themselves when there are people out there who really need help.

I don't think it's fair of biggy abusing the generosity of his parents and coming here for yet another pity party.

Biggy, I have read quite a few of your other posts or threads. You really should seek some counselling and help. I am a bit worried that you may be developing an ill-defined psychiatric condition called "Simple Schizophrenia" or depressive condition.

Simple Schizophrenia: ICD Criteria for Simple Schizophrenia

This typically begins in young adults where many end up not ever able to hold a job. I am not a psychiatrist but I did have some psychiatric training at med school. I do have a relative who is suspected of suffering from this.

Obviously you've had jobs, but I don't understand the "I work too slow"? Do you have a disability... I mean how are you "working slow"??? Or just lazy? I mean I've seen true mentally challenged people that have jobs at Publix and other places, if they can get and hold a job, I don't see why you can't.

You have written the same depressing rubbish here for ages, I complained about it a while back to you from memory, when you were on your last suicide bender.

Out of every post or whiner on this forum, your posts are the most depressive buckets of rubbish I have ever read.

If I was a mod here I would honestly ban your sorry ass out of this place so that your rubbish posts did not have be endured by those who at least are here trying to make a go of things in a positive way.

Then I'd book book a spot in the school of hard knocks or some form of disciplinary training, and knock some of that soft arse pussy whining rubbish out of you, and if not there should be place where we can send people to be with others of their own kind.

I shed no tears of pain or sympathy for stories like this, you need some real and hard smacks of reality and if karma is around the corner get ready to duck, because I am sure it's about to hit you in the face very soon.

The last time I had to go down to motor vehicles to get my license renewed, there was a guy working the front desk who was missing one arm, and his other arm was seriously injured. He could move his hand on his one arm, but that was about it. He had to use his chin and mouth to get his job done, but he was still able to work the register, make change, and staple the paperwork. Even though it was a busy day, and there were a ton of people there, he never once complained. He was cool, calm, professional, and polite the entire time. If this guy wanted to, he could probably sit at home and collect more than enough to support himself from the state. But he does not do that, and does not sit at home feeling sorry about himself. He still manages to get himself up from bed, go to work, and bring home a paycheck.

When I saw someone in his position still living a productive life, it not only gave me a tremendous amount of respect for him, but a lack of respect for people who moan and complain, instead of taking action and doing something with there life. The only excuses in life are the ones we create!

To the OP, you need to use your current situation as a motivator. Get rid of all the negative thoughts and start thinking positive. Set some goals, such as renting an apartment, buying a house, maybe a new car, and then take MASSIVE action to make it happen. If you tell yourself you want something, and then make a game plan to achieve it, you will be amazed at how your life changes and improves. We all go through tough times, some more than others, but those that are successful find the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though your tunnel is filled with thick black smoke, which makes it impossible to see the light, you have the power to change that.

Just thinking, why don't you become a writer? You can put sentences together, and with a positive attitude, I am sure you could be successful with that.

So I take it the guy that takes your order at McDonalds is a sinner.

So are the people that built the building you're living in.

Or who made your clothes. Grew your food. Built your computer, deliver your mail, keep your electricity running, and a host of other thing you take for granted.

Huh?? What work ethic is sin? So if you owned one of those businesses or a business in general, then your workers are sinners now b/c work is immoral and a sin? Maybe I misunderstood but that sentence doesn't even make any sense.

Look through his past post, nothing but a pity party, and then he never responds to anyone again (like this thread). If a mentally challenged person can get and hold a job, why can't he? Notice he never said why he does work slowly, does he have a disability or just genuinely lazy....

This is ridiculous. Who are we to judge him? Everybody is different. I can enjoy fireworks, while they trigger war flashbacks for my neighbor. Why can't he enjoy fireworks like everybody else? Maybe he has difficulty focusing on things outside of his forte. Lots of successful people admit to being lousy at everything except their craft.

Sorry gonna have to disagree with that... your gonna tell me you'd rather be homeless then get a job a 10 yr could do like bag groceries or flip a burger? Sure does that work suck, yeh, but you do what you gotta do... pretty safe to say it would beat living on the street. Plenty of people work jobs they don't like, but it's what they have to do to survive.

I'm not trying to rag on him, but just look at his past post/threads with the same "pity me" theme, yet when people offer to help or fig out what's going on, he never responds which makes it sounds like he just wants to see a rise in people. I mean come'on "Mr Unemployable" under his screen name?!?!

Now lets say he's disabled or other disorder that causes him to be "slow" at work, why isn't he receiving disability benefits?

I never said that. However, I wouldn't need to do that. Worst case scenario: I'd get one of those 1 day jobs, go to a used clothes shop, buy a suit, get a sales gig (as I've done before) that most people hate or, more lucratively, approach businesses door to door, selling internet marketing services (as I've done before). Would I say others should do the same? No. What applies to me may not apply to Big Fatty or Janet Wong or whoever.

Not knowing Big Fatty, I'd suggest that he offer to put together rap jingles and videos for internet marketers for video marketing (gag, I know. Not something most artists would like to do), or offer voice overs at some online service like Fiverr. I'd also approach film schools, offering songs for film scores. If any short film hit the international film festival circuit, it could open avenues.

I kind of agree with you there Kay. Maybe it would take more courage for a person to do that but you never really know what someone is going through.

Part of the reason why I said it takes courage to post what he did is because of the way people have reacted. Honestly I'm not sure it I could handle that because some of you have been ruthless.

Ok Biggy. I was down by Mt. Meigs today and saw a job posting in the security office at a customers place I visit now and then.

Worldwide company (pretty secure), good bennies, nice crew as far as I can tell and nobody I saw was moving very fast (LOL).

You'll have to apply at the employment office in Montgomery.

If you want the name just message me....I'll be in here off and on throughout the day.

Oh yeah. This particular location is a fairly small plant right now but is about to undergo a multi-million dollar expansion starting next month.....NOW is a good time to get your foot in the door.

Seems to me he's depressed. Textbook. Lack of motivation to this degree is not the norm and does not necessarily mean he's lazy and all this other stuff.

I hope he seeks counseling, if he can. Or resources on dealing with depression.

Some of the most productive members of our society suffered from depression and overcame it. And it is truly suffering, I hope he can get himself together before being out on the street.

I don't know if Big Fatty is depressed, a troll, a brilliant artist, or a numbskull. What I do know that mob attacks are scary. I've seen it happen more than I'd like to remember, including mob beatings and market vendors making fun of the village idiot. I recall a story about how a crowd was set on stoning a shameful and immoral harlot to death for being a slut. A real tramp. A whore who didn't have a real job. TBird,

The real lesson you need to learn here relates to "How not to be manipulated".

If you go through life crusading on other people's behalf when in fact all they are tring to do is get a rise out of you, you will end up spending vital resources and time that could be applied to far more worthy causes.

Perhaps one of the reasons you see a few of the older folks in this thread recommending basically ignoring posters like the OP here is because they recognize what is going on here in ways you seem to be missing.

Nobody is piling on in mob attack fashion here. What they are doing is displaying their disgust at a certain behavior pattern.

I suggest you let your feelings over this thread go. You're being manipulated far greater than you have guessed. That's if you have even recognized what is happening in the first place.

        Bill,

Well, what looks to be going on, anyway.

The guy is clearly not looking for help. If it's actually depression, it's not obvious to me why someone might post the things he has, with the smart-alecky comments included. Or why he'd talk about being in high spirits. Is depression a possible answer? Sure. But, given the comments from the OP, there's not a damned thing any of us can do if that's the case. He's made that abundantly clear.

Trolling seems a much higher probability. The repetition, the tone of the posts, and the timing, suggest someone just looking to stir up conversation and see how much attention he can get.

He might also just be a lazy punk.

We have no way of knowing for sure. In any of those cases, though, the proper response is to ignore him.

          Key statement for me was:

"I don't want to have that feeling of failure and worthlessness again".

It's not that he intrinsically can't get a job. It's because he doesn't want one for this very reason. It's a simple act of self-preservation. Which is fair enough. It's an understandable reaction for someone who still needs to grow up and he recognises this. Although, a little bit overly dramatic in his conclusions. I like his warped sense of hope and dark humour if you can call it that that it will turn out for the better. His life up until now seems to have been a little bit too mollycoddled. Whether he follows through or not. He knows he has to grow up.

It really isn't that bad. It's just a case of a lack of self-confidence is all. The best thing to do when you fall off your horse is get back on it rather quickly. Some people just have different ways in dealing with or not dealing with what life throws at you.

"And I'm thinking I wouldn't last an hour on the outside ..."

He doesn't get out much does he

          Jonathan,

He's not going through a difficult time.

He's creating it out of thin air.

          There's big difference.

Selling a website is alot more productive than selling a guitar or your personal assets. If you have a two month head start, and the warrior forum to read, along with even a little survival instinct, you have plenty of time. Heck maybe you could even set some money aside and send your parents to a Marriott for the weekend to say thanks!

No hill for a climber here.

If not I'd say you have failure to thrive syndrome, and might be able to collect disability.

Time for an epiphany man! We are here for you.

I swore that I thought this OP was a farce... then wow, this guy was for real.

Well, I am going to post something a little different than everyone else, because I don't think you, Biggy see what is really going on. You are almost 30 years old, and I am going to think you are male. At that age, you should have had quite a few kickass experiences that should have been quite liberating to say the least. But this isn't about YOU. This is about your parents...

Your parents, I am going to guess is between 50-60 years old; They have probably worked quite long and hard to raise you and your siblings. It is their turn to live. You are holding them back by staying there. Maybe they want to let loose and run naked in the living room, they can't... you are there. All of the time. Don't be selfish, because if you think the depression is bad now, wait until it is too late... then it will really be bad.

Get a job as a security guard, or a movie projector guy.
