Don't worry, it will all be fine! I'm at a university now about 3 states over from where I was raised... Other than missing the last two christmas' its been just fine.

You'll make new friends and if not you'll have more 'free' time to work on your IM biz.

Plus, if you are making enough from IM that you don't have to get a regular job it helps alot with being able to study (or party, lol).

It's perfectly natural to be scared but don't worry, you will make friends and everyone will be in the same boat as you. Of course there are risks, but the chances are everything will go fine, and even the things that don't will teach you valuable life lessons! And you'll probably find that you have a really great time too!

Don't worry. Sometimes you need that kind of situation to succeed. When you are forced to succeed you will succeed. Don’t worry about the feeling, just worry on HOW to do well and can pay your college. You can spent your energy on studying and working hard

It is perfectly normal to feel scared. My kids all started a new school this year and I think I was more scared/worried than they were - it's normal to fear the unknown.

It will be fine though, you'll have a great time and make lots of new friends! Try not to worry about it too much but focus more on the positive aspects of going to university.

Hi Cweber! It's totally normal (and very common) to be worried about all of these big changes, especially since they are important landmarks in your life. As long as you go forward with the right attitude, you will be absolutely fine!

Doing "well" is all relative, really. Decide what it means for you to do well, and then set goals that will help you achieve success. For some people, "doing well" means getting perfect grades. For others, it's just passing. Usually though, it's a combination of academic success and the achievement of personal goals. Having a plan can really help you focus!


No, silly! :p Of course you're not going to fail! Failing in college is usually 100% preventable. It's another situation where you need to assess how things are going, what your goals are, and how you can achieve them. If you're struggling in a class, get help. Recognize what the problem is early on, and don't let it grow into a monster problem. Talk to your professors. Ask other students to tutor you. Spend extra time going over the material. Just stay on top of your work, and put in the necessary effort, and you won't fail!


Gosh, I know how this feels, and my university is "cheap" compared to other schools. Try to come up with a doable system of earning the money you need. It might be the combination of getting a local job and doing internet marketing, or just one or the other. Just don't get overwhelmed, and look into scholarships and grants that you can apply for. Even small scholarships are free money, and help to offset the costs.

You might feel homesick at first, but most college students find that being on their own is actually quite fun and refreshing. There are tons of wonderful people that you're going to meet while you're at college, who will become great friends. They're not going to replace your old ones, they're just going to become your awesome college friends who are going through the same experiences as you. Embrace the changes! They can be more fun than you realize, and they really help you grow as a person.

Just change your mindset to:

I will do well. I am confident. I have no fear.

If you are going to be on your own, I think that you will have tons of fun.

You will do well and your fear will go away once you change your mindset.

Don't know what to tell you other than I spent my time at University of Michigan and it was an awesome time.

You'll work harder than you even knew you could. You'll meet people with the same interests - really intelligent people who will open all sorts of new doors in your mind when you hang with them. There will be bands and parties -- and if it's anything like school when I was there, some protests and some activities for worthy causes.

You will be so busy accomplishing, learning and having a great time with stimulating classmates you won't have time to be worried about much unless you fudge your studies.

If I had to go back in time to any one point in my life -- it would be to when I was in school.

dont worry bud, everything will go fine. You are doing it because you to be somewhere in life. You are scared but some are EXTRA scared and never do something of their life.

Essentially, it's a matter of solid study skills and time management. For example, you'll spend half as much time in class (~16-18 hrs), and more time overall (~40 hrs) than you're used to from high school (probably ~35, right?), and have a much shorter period (12-15 wks) to complete a semester's work. That means a LOT more reading if you're going to get the education you're paying for and not just the degree. It also means you start on written assignments as soon as know about them.
Most courses have only two exams - midterm and final - and some only have the final; that makes it imperative that you don't put off your studies and pull those ridiculous last-minute all-nighters because the stakes are simply too high.

Keggers and partying are fine - in moderation. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, though, to take advantage of what very will ever have the chance to experience - meeting intelligent people from all walks of life from all around the globe, yada-yada-yada. For most of us, a little bit of culture and high-brow musical performances go a very long way. Miss it entirely and you'll regret it.

You never know what's going to happen in their careers, so make more than a passing acquaintance with as many as you can.

... and trust me, you'll still have plenty of time to develop your IM business and at least a 50-50 shot at making as much as your tenured professors by the time graduation rolls around! (I'd kind of be discrete about it because too many people have already formed a strong opinion about IM in general and any/all capitalists in particular as sleazy thieves and liars. You need time for your studies and your business, not remedial education for the always angry, irrational, and intolerant leftists you're sure to encounter, with more than a few being your professors.)

A lot of people go to Uni and drop out for one reason or another.
Not to say you will...
But there are many people who have dropped out of Uni or never attended Uni and still managed to make a good living.
