Say it isn't so Cisco LOL. I love my Flip cam:

Cisco plans to shut its Flip camcorder business - Yahoo! Finance

Why can't they just sell the business instead of shutting it down?

Should we all buy a bunch of the last flip cams and sell them on Ebay next year?

That's a shame, those are nice little cameras.

That's too bad. Everyone and their brother has a Flip-like video camera now so for a big company like Cisco not worth it. Maybe they'll spin it off or sell it.

Real winners the founders of the small company that started the Flips. Sold it to Cisco for $590 million 2 years after setting shop. Nice!

I have 3 flips (different models) but last year I bought the Kodak Zi8 because it has mic jack for better audio. So even though I was a huge flip fan Kodak did it better IMO. So hard to compete with it. Especially since camera's really isn't Cisco's core business. I was surprised when they bought them.

    I dig my Kodak Zi8...

I still remember when some idiots stole my betamax. The policeman asked what it was worth and I wasn't thinking right. I said about $75, because I figured that was what it was worth at the time. I should have said something like $500! About $150 for a VHS replacement, and the rest for tape replacement, etc... I bought the beta because it was an established techology I heard was being used throughout the industry with a smaller tape. And HECK, it had at least 1/2 the market. Of course, by the time mine was stolen, they were hard to get, and had about 1/4 or the market and DROPPING. A couple years later they had a firesale on all beta tapes.

As for the flip cams? I tried looking, and every phone seemed to be overshadowed by another. Why don't they have a more standardized selection? I swear, it is like the GPS market! I ended up buying a cheaper phone that could do more than I thought I was ever likely to want within the life of the product.

BTW I wanted to get a digital camera LONG ago, but the ones I wanted cost HUNDREDS of dollars. TODAY, they are considered JUNK! The sub $300 cameras have better software, more features, often as much optical zoom, usually MORE digital zoom, and better resolution! The camera I bought costs about 1/3rd, has all the features, though some are better, and about 5 times the resolution. Same optical and digital zoom.

ALSO, the industry has gone NUTS!!!!!! The connections on the camera may be declared obsolete even by next year!
