Why do you live where you live?

You work on the internet, you could be ANYWHERE there is a connection ...

Often times I see these offers and they use fast girls, pretty cars, and exotic locations ... then I look at where they live and it's Minnesota or Michigan or Washington or CANADA !!?!?!

Let's face it, that's no where near Tropical weather or fruity concoction alcoholic beverages...

so why do you live where you live? (this question is for everyone)
#city or state #live

I lived in the tropical miami florida but I don't understand what your asking. Everyone lives where they do for many reasons. It's true the internet is everywhere but that has no relevance to where you live.

Hey Matt - I'm not asking where anyone lives - I'm asking WHY they live where they do. Huge distinction. People can live where ever they want, haha ... I don't care. I just wonder why some live where they do - when the Internet is everywhere - which means their job is anywhere they want to be.

Me, I'm decidedly not where I want to live at the moment -- I'm in the wrong state altogether -- but I'm moving before long!

When I do move it will have to be near the water as well.

Well, some might want to live in hawaii, but the volcanos ARE eating up the land. How about Malibu? NICE place! Kind of a countrified version of beverly hills. The property is just as expensive, stars are just as likely to live there, it can be near the beach, etc... But they have a LOT of fires and rain, and a lot of homes are built on cliffs! Of course, california has earthquakes. Perhaps EVERY place has its issues. I think bill gates, and warren buffet still live where they did when they were relatively poor. And Carlos probably still lives in mexico.

I live where I live because I was apparently lied to about rents, so I wanted to take advantage of a situation I KNEW couldn't last because, well... it DID last until it helped cause the 2008 problem! I ended up staying where I was when I first decided to get a home.

Crazy, the same person told me apartments HERE cost over $1000. I found he a nice apartment in a nice area that was a good size for less than HALF of what she claimed.

Nice Steve - I like getting good deals by surprise ... it's like finding a $20 in the pocket of the jeans you were just about to wash.

Lou, I'm with you man ... I LOVE the water. I don't know that I like being on it as much as just surrounded by it ... definitely don't like to be "land-locked".

Actually, in this area, I think MOST apartments are a good deal less than $1000. I was surprised to see ones over. It IS a NICE area, but there are a lot of houses, etc.. You could get a nice one for a small family for $100K

I was born here in the DFW area of North Texas. I have lived in Phoenix and Mississippi and Florida. All were great except for Mississippi because I was just there to work insurance claims after Hurricane Katrina wiped the coastline clean (And people think New Orleans was bad, you should have seen the scene in Mississippi. Whole towns wiped off the map and surges from 2 feet up to 30 feet). Despite liking those areas, all of my immediate family and closest friends were here. I have since made a whole new group of friends here to go with my older group and couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I've already done the fresh start twice, but like the saying, DFW is where my heart is. Home.

I live in Los Angeles. Went to grad school here and have worked here for a number of years. I did run my own boutique marketing firm, but then went back to the rat race after 16 months... wasn't making enough money.

I'm dying to figure out a muse to start, but my brain is totally blocked.... wait, what was the question?

Oh yeah... I live down here for the weather & b/c I have a job that puts decent bread in my pocket.

I'd move to Thailand or somewhere if I got a reliable internet biz going that covered my student loans. But until then, I'm here. At least the weather is good.

I live in Houston and only because I'm an idiot, it's hot and it sucks. Business isn't as great as people make it out to be, I might be moving soon as is... I would love to move somewhere North where I would get all 4 seasons and get something reasonably priced out in the country (house) that wouldn't cost to much and still allow me to work from home. So I guess my real "bonus" or my only "plus" you could say, is the fact that I can work from "home" wherever I am, whenever I need to....

    Nice post!

I wonder how many people reading the thread know where that is? I got it a little bit wrong: I guessed from having heard of places called 'Rotorua' and similar names that Aotearoa was going to be a town in New Zealand ... checked on Google and learned something I felt embarrassed not to know already.

I live where I live, Palm Springs, CA, because I love the desert contrasted with lots and lots of palm trees, green grass with the backdrop of mountains close enough to touch. And the weather is warm and sunny most of the time. And then there is the huge selection of excellent restaurants all with in 5 minutes... oh! I just LOVE it!

I moved here from San Diego where I got tired of 60 degrees and overcast. I hate having to carry a sweater when going out to dinner.

It doesn't really matter where you live, as long as you can afford to travel often and anywhere you want all over the world, for as long as you want your staying to be. This is one of my main dreams to realize when I'll become really successful, and not just by hitting a small fortune due to a project that went well. But time with all it's successes and failures, will guide us all reaching where we want and do whatever we dream about. In some cases ;D

Michigan what the beep is wrong with Michigan?

I'm an Australian born and breed and have lived in Michigan for the last 2 years (apart from 4 months in London and a few months back in Sydney)
I love Michigan, its a beautiful state, beautiful summers on Lake St Clair boating and Skiing Up North in the Winter. It lacks the pretentiousness of places like NY or LA in the states.

I get sick of anywhere if I'm there for too long. The best place to live is where your family and friends are. What is the point of life, if not to share it with those that are close to your heart.

I would live anywhere if my friends and family were there with me, wouldn't matter.

South FL... can think of a few reasons why:

      hot girls in bikini's 24/7
      boating
      wakeboarding
      excellent food especially sea food
      water lol
waterfront prop to take the heat away from the summer and watch boats go by with the girls in bikini's 24/7 lol
      beach
      surfing

I like visiting up north and all around, but I would go nutz w/o the comfy water or beach, even Cali was great but water was far too cold in the summer to surf

edit - forgot to mention most of my fam is from South FL... rare true South Floridian here haha

We live in this town because we moved here about 30 years ago to escape the rat race of the big city and raise our family here. We had family in the area, so it was a natural choice.

We moved to this location of town about 20 years ago because it is still in town limits, but (at the time) it was a secluded acreage with only two neighbours within visual range and nothing but forest on three sides.

In the past two or three years, however, they cleared all the trees to the north of us and there is now a new subdivision with about a dozen homes and one multi-unit building, plus many, many more houses planned.
