I am watching "to catch an ID thief".

This one jerk:

1. Receives single products for a person, wendy, that is NEVER there!
2. His WIFE NEVER gave details about wendy, but claimed to know her!
3. He SHIPS them to Africa, claiming that wendy will sell them in her store there!
4. His picture of Wendy does NOT look african!
5. He CLAIMED to have made over $18,000, THROUGH PAYPAL!
6. When the delivery guy gets chummy chummy with him, he claims that he actually LOST $40,000 in shipping costs.

Do you REALLY think that HE could be so dumb? His wife KNOWS this is going on, and HELPS?

I think if I were a police officer, I would feel comfortable arresting the guy on fencing charges, money laundering, and suspicion of credit card fraud and theft!

BESIDES, why doesn't thet "STORE" do what every other store does? Buy in BULK, WHOLESALE, and have it shipped there.

STEVE - My sister had her CC identity stolen a couple of months back. Everything was fixed on her end with no problem, but the authorities refused to pursue the person. They now claim that there's just too much of it going on to pursue guilty parties. It's gotten to be sick on all levels.

Thanks. I just asked for an opinion, since I was curious. I obviously won't make money either way.

I once had a credit card stolen, they "went to town". The police had a description of them and I gave them PROOF, and most things were VERY ethnic, and I found one place that said they WOULD be remembered! I mean COMMISSION sales, and some person buys 14 TIMES what the average sale is? You DON'T forget THAT! I gave it to the police, IN PERSON! When I got a letter saying "open but inactive", I went back and found that they LOST the info! They actually asked me to give them another copy, like it was nothing! It was more trouble for me, and the value drops with every passing day. After a month or so, FORGET IT! If I were the police officer, ONLY with the stuff I gave them, and *****NOTHING***** else, I would figure OK guys... We're looking for at least one person that is probably hispanic, and female. Here's a shoe store where they bought over $700 worth of shoes, let's go THERE! If THAT doesn't work, we can hit these restaurants! MAYBE they're regulars!

Adding in the description, you know it is a man and a woman, both hispanic. Judging from how they used my card, and what they stole, you can figure they are ostentatious. Of course, MAYBE they just like giving everyone VCRs and shoes! In an area like that, they may REALLY stand out!

BTW the police CLAIMED that the people that used the card probably weren't the ones that stole it. SO? They STILL committed folonies, and they would KNOW who sold them the card. Even TODAY, when you can sell a credit card number over the internet in MINUTES, what is the likelyhood that such a sale would be to only ONE person only a few miles away from you? BESIDES, the thieves probably didn't stop after my house.

I guess it was too simple.

The big problem is that the criminals are usually from either out of state or, even worse, out of the country. There is simply no way to prosecute someone from Africa (if she is even actually from Africa) without help from their government, and the chances of that are probably slim to none.

Most people would be flabbergasted if they knew how prevalent this was on the internet, and how much money and how many people are involved. These are typically world-wide organizations.

A friend of mine wrote an article for Wired magazine a few years back, and the info he came up with was nothing short of astounding. It's a long article, but very informative:

One Hacker's Audacious Plan to Rule the Black Market in Stolen Credit Cards

This is another site that got shut down a few years before Carders Market and was even bigger in scope:

ShadowCrew - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah, this is definitely scary stuff.

Yeah, but there are people here that are doing things that are SO out of line with reason that one might declare them an ACCOMPLICE! If you drive your freind to a gun store, and then drive to the bank and, seeing him hold the gun up, and the people in the bank face down, and and cars coming around the corner with sirens, you get going, YOU'RE AN ACCOMPLICE! Would the police REALLY believe you are innocent?

BTW the criminals are now doing it from benin because they find it easier to go a few miles and say they are from benin, than their home country of NIGERIA!

Seriously, how much does this have to be advertised?

I KNOW! I was HONESTLY thanking you! You QUOTED jassmine12's post, and I saw it earlier. Besides, I understand why you would say that about jassmine12, but wouldn't understand it if it WERE directed to me.

OH, and I separated my response to you.

Brad - this wasn't that hard a case to figure out.

My sister used her card to buy a product that was being sold at a booth outside of a store - they "didn't have the CC machine set up so ran the sale on paper receipts with one of those old hand machines. That product is sold outside of that store 3 days a week and they are still there. All they had to do was ask the store who was working that day. Truth be told - they just plain didn't FEEL like doing their job. The police force out here at my sister's is the biggest sham against honest citizens I've ever witnessed. This whole state caters to illegal criminals. If you are an actual citizen you're screwed no matter which way you turn and no matter what is going on. It's like the whole system out here exists solely to see how much money they can bleed out of citizens. As soon as I'm gone it can fall into the sea for all I care. The rest of the country would benefit if it did.

Unless they were affiliated with the store, the store couldn't have helped them out. MANY of the drafts have used carbon, and even the OTHERS can be used to get the number. Unfortunately, they generally DON'T shred them, and the law has determined that anything in dumpsters is generally fair game! So it could have been "honest" stupidity. I quote honest because frankly people doing that SHOULD have a "fiduciary duty". I realize the law doesn't require that, but they ARE supposed to take reasonable care. and frankly, many DON'T! At one point, maybe 12-15 years, JC penny's had a TON of customers numbers released. HOW? Was it an inside job? NOPE! Consultant? NOPE Hacking? NOPE! Someone stole all the draft carbons from the trash!

The store that the kioske was in front of was not affiliated - but the company that sells that product knows who worked there. There was no "careless" about this one. They were still there when the ID fraud was reported and it came right from that area - about a block down the street, so it looks like someone had more fun for lunch hour than they expected to.
The employee "disappeared" strangely enough after that day.
