What musical instrument do you like to listen to the most. If you took a poll of your CD collection what instrument would be on all or most of them?

My favorite is the Alto Sax. The most romantic instrument to get any lady in the mood, guaranteed! Try it!

Which ever one I am playing, learning to play, or about to learn.
The one exception is the Uilleann pipes which I love to listen to but don't see me learning.

  • Guitar is on most of my music, but I could listen to Hilary Hahn or anyone of that caliber play the violin all day.

I love Bagpipes #1 - Ulillean especially (which is pipe without bag).

    I love Alto Sax -

I love the Tambura (Indian drone) #1A

    I love the Sitar

I love the Turkish Sipsi and Zurna #1 B

I can't play a thing but I love music and think in most cases the drums are one of the most important elements to any music (the heart beat if you will).

Here's 2 of my favorites. Liam O Flynn's is hands down one of the best Ulillean players I've ever heard.

I also like the sound of the 60's style electric organ, like Booker T:

Definitely the saxaphone, just wished I learned how to play it when I was younger.

This one you may not see mentioned much, but I really enjoy listening to Native American flute music.

Hi Thom - I had one of Liams in my bookmarks - listen how different though (not jig)

Here is an old timer they mention as making his entire living playing pipes.

One of the most beautiful pipes very much like Ulillean is from Bulgaria. Listen please.

I think you guys should give some ear to less refined musical instruments and get the feel of rediscovering music as i did. Here i was thinking nothing could outdo the bass guitar, then i heard the "wandidi". Sound funny in name, but has a totally different sound in spirit.

YouTube - Hedge Monkeys Jam with new Integral Hang and 2nd Generation.
I've watched that video a few times before, they are good.
There's a few different versions of that drum around.
It's funny, for the first time in my life I'm pissed at how old I am.
I spent most of my life playing a drum kit and on occasion congas.
Now since I got the Bodhran I have a strong desire to learn other instruments. I already ordered a Generation Pennywhistle and as a reward for when I learn to play it I'll start buying instruments from this guy http://www.eriktheflutemaker.com
add to that mess the drums I want and even 30 more years won't be enough time

    Thom,

It's great that you are still involved in some form of making music - that is what I always think is so awesome with artists - they are always multi-talented - the musician who plays more than one instrument and/or paints, or writes to me is genius.

It is a great thing there are 'more gentle' instruments than drums so that when you are really a codger you won't break anything! LOL!

I really hope you do always stay 'tuned in'.

Funny story - tripping at youtube on all the 'odd music' and exotic instruments and in the middle of the kalimba, hang drum, hapi drum and etc.

I see there is a video for a dryer drum and I am oh cool another drum.

WTH? - instructions on repairing your clothes dryer! LOL.

I will be playing mine tonight... Finally something I can play!

Nobody mentions computer as an instrument and I know to some they think electronic music is really not art - granted some is really cheesy 'electronica'.

This is pretty far out though - I have always loved 'experimental' and industrial music so it is kind of fusion, eh?

For someone who has no musical ability at all I love the piano when my eldest son plays it and the drums when my youngest son plays them. They both play guitar as does my husband so i am in total awe of their skills and abilities.

Those hang drums are great! Never saw that done before.

I play piano/keyboard but what I like to listen to are

      banjo
      fiddle/violin
      alto sax
      bagpipes

Don't care too much for country music - but I love good bluegrass. Don't like reggae but enjoy instrumental zydeco and New Orleans jazz.

Whether classical or Meatloaf - I prefer uptempo music.
