Just a reminder - gasbuddy will show you the cheapest gas providers in your area.

I'd forgotten about this site until I noticed a big price difference on a sign yesterday so checked gasbuddy.com this morning and found a station near me that is 20 cents less per gallon.

Prices in my town today are 3.69 to 3.89 - and I prefer 3.69! Very handy little site to know about.

  • I check Gasbuddy almost every day, myself. I found them when we had the last riase in gas prices a few years back. They also have apps for your cell phone and website, as well.

They should as oil has dropped - but seems like when oil prices go up - gas goes up the next day. When oil prices drop it takes much longer than the next shipment for gas to go down.

I understand the decreasing price may be due to when the oil was purchased for refining. Seems like the increasing price should work the same way but it doesn't.

I have friends in oil and this is pretty much how it works, let's say gas starts dropping.. well they have current shipments in at X (higher) price, however speculators an devalued dollar can artificially keep "pump" prices high or very very slowly drop... but this is where the big smoke and mirrors game comes in. The second oil starts rising even a little bit, pump prices can start jumping up even though their now using the units bought at "lower" price per barrel.

          Big shell game lol.

Another example of this is property taxes, they had no problem jumping through the roof at the accessors office, however with properties now dropping and worth less then half what they were during the boom, people are still paying upon an "accessed" value that is not there. Like in FL, good luck getting them to re-access the property to current value for taxes. You have people paying taxes on a 600k accessed value for example when the house is currently appraised for 300k... they won't drop b/c the counties will lose too much money.

Yeah - I've seen that one first hand. My county decided it "had to" reassess properties in 2006. Hurricane Katrina was late 2005 so not surprisingly with thousands of homes destroyed or damaged, property values had risen greatly.

At the time it was claimed they "had to" reassess every 4 years. Five years later - nothing has been reassessed. It more than doubled my property taxes and if I could get the amount that my house is appraised for taxes...I'd sell the sucker in a heartbeat:rolleyes:

I hear you. Tampa is the same. Insane assessments and very high home insurance rates.

Well as I live in the UK I have no chance of even remotely cheap 'gas' or 'petrol'. Ours is so expensive it has become necessary to show prices in litres instead of gallons.

I just found GasBuddy like a month ago after completely forgetting about it as well. I'm addicted to updating the deals I find. The way I see it, let the best ones get all the business = even cheaper prices!

You need to do what the Irish are doing.

They have just imported 50 million tonnes of sand from Saudi Arabia and will start drilling for their own oil next week.
