Where Do You Suppose All Those People Got to?

I keep a couple of notebooks for threads I have printed out over a long period just in case they got deleted. Some really good threads have been. One thing struck me as I was reading a thread that was here about three years ago. Some of the names are still here. People like Kay King, Steve Wagenheim and others that contribute every day. However, there were other names that were once all over this place that I haven't seen in ages. Did they succeed, fail, make money, lose money? I remember one guy that had 1,000 posts in about 3 months. He launched 4 or 5 really awful WSOs, got banned, got a new ID, came back, Bev Clement outted him in a week. Never saw him again. To listen to some of these people you'd think they were all millionaires, driving Italian sports cars, living in beach front mansions. I wonder how many ever made anything of IM?

They were most likely produced by the crappy WSOs.

From my standpoint, crappy WSOs produce crappy Internet marketer hopefuls who in turn produce more crappy WSOs. It's a neverending cycle that's part of our culture.

The important thing is to make sure you never get caught in it, like the fellow you're talking about, whatever his name is.

I've wondered about some of those people, too. Maybe some wised up and made a go of IM - others probably had to get a real job

Nothing has changed - those who come here, phart and leave are replaced by new people trying the same tricks. In fact, the numbers seem to have increased in the past few months. Some are same people with a new name but there are always plenty more where they came from.

Yea, like what ever happened to Jared Alberghini, anyway? He went and started his own thing and then just dropped out of sight.

Last I heard he was heading out to harvest maple (IIRC).

I wonder if anyone has thought to check that he isn't stuck the side of a tree somewhere in the backwoods of Vermont? I hope so; death by maple tree adhesion doesn't sound like the best way to suffle off one's mortal coil.

I suspect the failure rate is much higher than we can imagine. When it dawns on them that they still have to work for a living and nothing about this place is going to make them rich by next Tuesday they run. I work very hard at all of this. Last Saturday I was on this computer from 10:30 AM till 3:00 AM Sunday morning. After trying and failing a dozen different things I found three that make me money and I stick with them. (My three would probably be different than your three.) I unsubscribed from a bunch of lists and only keep those people around who contribute to my business and me to theirs. (They are also the kind of people I would be pleased to be friends with if they lived nearby.) I allow myself 1 hour in the morning for email and to check stats and income. After that I don't get distracted by it the rest of the day. I outsource more now than a year ago. After sorting through about 50 "all stars" I managed to find two people that can work, will work and do turn out the kind of quality I expect from them. I shudder when I see offer after offer start out with words like "All You Have To Do Is". I've not found a single thing about this business or any other where those words apply. Still, I have found great joy and a sense of accomplishment in all of this. My income started from $1.66 in March of 2009 and has multiplied every month since. This business is very doable but there isn't any Easy button.

When you hear someone telling you what YOU can't do, they are usually talking about what THEY can't do.

Shhhh. Word mustn't get out. Don't want the neighbors to find out I'm not a layabout... Some of us are trying to cultivate our image as someone who doesn't work, but who has easy money raining on them from cyberspace.

I know that I post in spurts, and can go weeks without stopping by. That's meant as a compliment to this board, because I can get sucked in here and avoid working for hours on end.

        But I always return....

Some of em dropped out about a year and a half ago when the forum was hit by a rash of trolls and scammers. They got sick of people trashing every post they made and left. A few made enough and left - some took their businesses offline.

The ones that were here only a short time..........well, like you said, there's a very high failure rate. Always has been and always will be.

Does that mean everyone that stays here is making it in IM?

No, Matt, it doesn't. Just means their odds are better than the constant stream of newbies who wander through here looking for the Easy button. I think it is just about impossible for anyone who is conscious not to learn something over time in here. Put that together with effort and those are the people who are making it. I almost hate to guess but I'd say the percentage of people who make any kind of money in IM is 5% or less.
