OFF TOPIC

The thread yesterday about Comet Elenin made me remember this. I know it's been 'doing the rounds' for a while, but I still think it's a great illustration of exactly how big things are beyond the confines of Earth (or, to put it another way, how small we are in comparison... and how little a 4km comet like Elenin is too

Yep! We look super tiny when we're looking at our own solar system, even. Imagine how big our galaxy is! Then imagine how big the Universe is - with billions of galaxies! Sheeeeeesh.

The question is: Is the universe infinite or just in our minds because of the sheer size?

The world is still big to me because I've had to walk a couple of times when my car broke down and also when I had no ride and walking several miles makes you realize how big the earth is compared to ourselves. Even driving 50 miles sucks.

  Wow Thomas! I really enjoyed the illustration. I don't know but it's nice to look at this representation somehow. They always show the sun in schools so I never really get the picture how big those start they say are bigger than the sun. With this post, I think I now know how.
