  What amazes me about it all, is not when his passport expired but that anyone is making a big deal out of it.
  Anyone believing it's a prediction is truly amazing(ly stupid).

OK, I was going to more fully explain it, and then retracted it. 9/11 happened close to 9:11am(8 minutes earlier)! I think the 911 was CHOSEN because it is the emergency number of the US & canada. Neo's passport might have happened like that in the same way. 2001 is a time that for DECADES was used as a year of the future. They expected many changes. Look at "2001 a space odyssey"! That was in 1968!

HECK, september is also a bad month for the economy! It is also a HOT month, and such months are supposed to make people nuts.

Of course, take any random set of occurrences, and people are BOUND to pick patterns.
The matrix was RELEASED in 1999. SUPPOSE that the script was written in 1991! The passport might have been said to expire in 2001. WHY? Because passports expired in 10 years, 1991 was in one century, and 2001 in the next. It was the turn of the millenia.

Futuristic scripts ARE more likely to specify a date. Even the star trek franchise eventually did.
