Are you allowed to post anything here anymore besides "what is your favorite TV show" and the likes?

I started a thread about the U.S total debt and it got pulled. This is a money making forum right?
Is that topic considered religious or political? Wtf?

Politics are illegal territory here. Unfortunately, we now operate under a system where one can not be separated from the other and have a conversation that still makes sense. Unfortunately - as soon as someone says "government" someone comes in and start railing on one particular party or politician. The mods don't have time to sort the good posts from the bad so they just ditch the whole thread when that happens.

I hope you read this before it gets ditched again.

That was also the 4th or so thread on that topic in the last 30 days. Those other threads went the way of the Dodo and so will the next ones. Don't take it personally, a lot of us commented on those threads.

      Unfortunatley, so did seasoned...

You can discuss anything other than religion or politics or anything that
could conceivably lead to a conversation on religion or politics.

Well crap - there goes work, play, men, organic food, weather, rockhounding, grilled cheese, coffee, and asti.

          Now what?

You failed to mention UFO's and Philosophy. Ah well, guess I'll flip through the Ashton Kutcher thread for the fifth time.
P.s, how come did the royal wedding thread[s] never get pulled?

Oh that's easy - the royal family is categorized under high society - right along with Hollywood foibles such as Charlie Sheen.

Under no circumstances ever, ever mention coffee. This inevitably always leads to Columbian politics!

I've even seen "what is your favorite TV show" type threads turn political and get booted. People just can't help themselves I guess.

Yep. I remember at least one of those. One of the regulars decided to comment on the socio-economics of a particularly fun family sitcom in a way that just flared into chaos.

As you say... some people simply cannot help themselves.

Those kind of comments can evolve out of any kind of topic. You could start a thread about an earthquake in some village in Indonesia and without a doubt someone will start banging away at the greedy western governments and how the poor are getting poorer blah blah.

Just about any topic can be politicized. I have seen it even with TV shows threads. U.S shows are better than U.K shows and who invented the language anyway? Ya know, childish bs.

Pulling a thread about the state of the world's finance (a topic that concerns and worries a lot of people) is a bit harsh in my opinion.

Ya know what I mean? Where does it end?
It's not like saying: "Islam, the biggest threat to civilization?"

But it's your house, your rules. I respect that.

Not my house or my rules. I'm just the bouncer.

There are certain topics that almost inevitably proceed to politics. International finance is one of them. Not to mention that it attracts the worst sides of the conspiracy theorists.

As far as religious comments, it's the same thing. Doesn't matter what religion anyone mentions, it rolls downhill until someone's personal beliefs are being abused in ways that shouldn't happen. That goes beyond individual insults and into the class of abusing a significant chunk of the population of the globe.

            Not cool.

By the way... Your earthquake example? There was a thread here in which that happened in a single reply. Yes, the first response to a post went all the way into almost exactly the conversation you described. It may have been the shortest-lived thread that got a response in my experience with OT.

One other thing to keep in mind is that as Google indexes these threads for certain keyphrases it has the ability to attract, how do I say this...undesirable malcontents bent on spreading their cerebralfeces anywhere there is an opening.

So we plug the holes as fast as they crop up.

                Well, Sir Paul does, anyway...

Yeah - that's where I get my tolerance and empathy for having rules on subject matter. I've also noticed that when the main forum fills up with "I made THIS much overnight and here's how" threads, we get waves of spammers.

Aww. God bless the poor little spammers with their futile attempts to get their post counts up by spamming the off topic forum.

Some little spammers first post on the WF the other day was a reply to a "what is your favorite 80's band?" Guess what his answer was? The Beatles.

                    God bless em'
