picts don't show up in wind media player (win 7)

vids don't show up in my windows media player *using win7*, what to do to make it show up? I now using win media player classic to show my vids picture.... advice?

      I play videos all the time that aren't in my library but on my external drive.
      I'm thinking it's a windows explorer problem. For the last month explorer has been a royal pain in the ass. It loads (and freezes) slow as hell on start up and takes forever to shut down when turning off the computer. It has also on occasion been causing problems with other windows programs on my machine.

    Ok to be explicit:

    I played my video file with windows media player (not classic) , it can play the audio but not the video. I've installed some codec and stuff like that but it doesn't work, I don't know what to do...

    THe file can be from my hard drive and my optical drive (doesn't matter), any suggestion?

      Mine does that on occasion. I still think explorer is causing a problem.

        Mine will do that sometimes if it is in full screen mode. If I click out of full screen mode it plays the video part. The same thing will happen sometimes when I immedialety replay a video...sound but no sight...

    You're definitely not alone with this problem. What kind of video file are you trying to play? A DVD? avi., mp3, mpeg-4?

    If it's a DVD, WMP may not play them depending on which version of Windows you have, although there is a codec you can get for it. If that's the problem, let me know and I'll send you the DVD codec.

    I finally broke down and bought NVidia's codec pack, and now it plays pretty much everything.

    If you don't really care if it's WMP or not, then I would download VLC Player. It's free, and it will play darn near anything with no additional codecs necessary.

      Thanks Brad, I bookmarked that in case I need it in the future.
      Right now it doesn't happen to me often enough to be a concern.
      All the videos I watch in it are downloaded from youtube.
      They are instrument lessons or music videos.
      As long as the sound works it doesn't really bother me.

    It seems that you need add it firstly! WMP will show the pics if the file do have one.
