Hi warriors, i am really new here but i have basic business knowledge. I am a student and studying abroad. There are a lot of students from my country studying abroad.I have found a some problem for us who are studying abroad. The problem is that we all miss and love our local TV program because it can not be watch abroad. Therefore, i would like to take this opportunity to start a business which is streaming TV programs.I have done some research on how to start over and found various online TV to PC satellite TV providers. The price is on a lifetime basis ranging from $40-$50 per subscription. So here are my questions:

1)Do you think we can subscribe to a TV provider and put what we subscribe on a server to be access by others? This has to mean that for example, i subscribe to the provider for $40+ then setup my server to control access etc. for others to watch?Meaning that who ever wants my service have to subscribe under me and pay a certain amount of money to me and then access to the server is granted. Can this be done?I don't know but i am sure it can be done by professional perhaps?

2)Do you think this concept violate the TOS of a sat. TV provider because i have found nothing explaining on this.

3)I know this need a lot of research, investment and hardworks but do you think i can be successful in this business? As long there is demand there is profit provided that my service is professional and good just like what we want.

Okay i think that's all what i concern of so far. Any comments , suggestions , critics and opinions are accepted. Please give some feedback guys.

Thank You.

Yes of course it is already there but as a student $50 is big. I would like to charge them in the future for a lower affordable price. What do you think of that?

No. That is flat out stealing.

Yes. This is so cut and dried there is no grey area here.

Are you kidding? Once you're caught by the Sat people you'll spend the next 5 years fighting the legal system.

  • Your only option would be talk directly to the satellite company and buy a license to 'stream' the programs.

I can see 2 potential problems, though. The first is that I'm sure there would a limit as to how many 'streams' you can provide, and the second would be that such a license would be VERY expensive, which means you would have to raise the price to your customers to cover your costs.

While I certainly understand that $50 is a lot of money to most college students, you have to understand that the current providers have to recoup the money for their expensive license(s). Being that these companies are so large, though, they can spread the cost over many more subscribers, such as how Netflix does.

I don't have any particular facts or figures to base this on, but I would think that with such a small base of customers, your prices would probably have to be at least triple that per month, I would think.

Now if you can come up with the money to cover the costs of the license(s), and you can come up with enough subscribers, I think there is plenty of room for good competition in the niche you are talking about.
