I grew up in L.A....got out ALOT. Didn't get the name Roaddog for nothing.

Although I grew up on the other side I worked on the west side, because as Willie Sutton said "that's where the money is"

Anyway some I knew, some ran into, some worked for..etc..

        Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa

Paul Stanley (KISS) helped build his house.

Jack Palance..although not in LA, in Tehachapi...he had a small ranch.
Had the most awesome collection of western art and antiques I've ever seen.

        Jack Nicholson

        Markus Allen

        Gary Busey

        Benny (The Jet) Urquidez

Bill Ryusaki (very well known in martial art circles) Had a picture in his house with him and Bruce Lee leaning on each other.

        George Schlater (produced Laugh In)

Ricardo Montalban (very nice man, the essence of class)

John MacIntire and Jeannette McDonald (old time actors, husband and wife)

I was a delivery driver to the studio's for a very short time and ran into Lorretta Swit, Alan Alda, and Wayne Rodgers all walking in 'uniforms' from MASH..(stopped and asked directions, even though I knew where I was going...lol)

Oh almost forgot, while I was a delivery driver, almost ran over Bernadette Peters as she stared into the sky and stepped off a sidewalk on Santa Monica Blvd.

Ray Wise (character actor, you've seen him)

Actually there are so many that I will have to add as I remember.

LOL these don't include all the future famous waiters and waitresses I met.

        L.A. is full of them.

Do I miss LA...hell no...while it was nice to meet some of these people, the thrill wears off.

L.A. has a lot of problems

            You do look familiar...

These are just the people I know for a fact are/were real..
            not just that I saw.
            I'd be here all day.

In fact Bruce Springsteen actually came and talked to me as I was wiring a building in West Hollywood (I believe).
I heard this gravelly voice say "Hey what you doing" turned around and didn't even recognize him at first. I talked to him and his wife about three times after that.

Missed Ali by five damn minutes in the same building...still po's me.

I don't know if you remember Tom Hayden...I literally bumped into him in a hallway there.

I have seen him in person (he lives in LA), but never actually met him, as well as perhaps hundreds of others. The only famous people whom I've actually met in person are William Knight (X-15 pilot, mayor of Palmdale, CA state senator) and his son Steve Knight (CA State Assembly. Just saw Steve again at the Palmdale Town Hall meetin' and hoe down last week.

Yea well we didn't have a very good meeting.

In fact sometimes when I had to work or meet and greet someone famous, it didn't always make me happy, depending on who it was. Plenty of aholes in that bunch too.

I don't remember what it was about this particular building, but a few 'famous' people went thru there that I missed. Ali being the only one I was sorry I missed.

When you are around certain circles especially in LA. You are bound to run into famous people. Meet em, work for em...smoke with em..etc.

I met Ali in D.C. with my young nephews and we talked for a minute as I was one of hundreds waiting in line at a new restaurant that had his name on it.

I met Super Bowl MVP Doug Williams in D.C. about a week after Super Bowl 22.

I told him I was a QB also and he asked me how long had I been a Black QB.

    We had a hearty laugh.

I have a chance to meet the prez next week at a fundraiser but it's going to cost 10K.

    Not going to happen.

That's all I can think of for now.

I met and talked a little to Ronald Reagan when he did a campaign stop at the hotel/restaurant I worked at. The exec. chef and I where standing back stage on the side and when he finished his speech he came over and asked the chef to make him a sandwich. We talked for a minute before he got the sandwich.
I also meet Mario Coumo the x gov. and father of our current gov. in NY.
I also went out with a girl in the mid 70's who lived across from Bearsville Studio. We also hung out at the same bars the musicians did so I met just about everybody who recorded there or at lest was in close proximity to them.
But I guess my big claim to fame is getting drunk along side Gregg Allman in a topless bar in Daytona Beach. Only thing is I know I was to drunk to notice him and I'm pretty sure he was to drunk to notice me. Besides did I mention it was a topless bar

John McCarthy on a boat in Whitby and Prince Andrew at work. My friend and I came face to face with Andrew and he smiled at us and said hello - sadly we became totally useless and just grinned inanely. He was working rather than there as a royal so there was no security around him.

I met George W. Bush in September of 2006 I think it was at the Grand Island Nebraska airport, close to where I lived. Might've been 2007. He was on his campaign trail and spoke at the event center in Grand Island. My mother greeted him when he got off the plane at the airport, and he presented some volunteer award to her. They talked for a minute and then I saw him waving towards me (standing far away watching), and motioning for me to come over.

Secret Service had a field day, but they guided me over and I got to shake his hand and talk about Habitat for Humanity with him for a couple of minutes. He told us how he helped with the program one day and hammered his thumb within an hour of being there. The three of us took a couple of pictures together and received them from the White House in the mail a few weeks later. We got to be signed up on their mailing list and got holiday greetings from him and Laura while he was in office. We then got invited to an address on the White House lawn a year later. We spent a couple of days in D.C. as well and it was a fantastic experience. The White House lawn was full of interesting people and the Marine Corps lines the walkways and were really nice and took pictures with us. They had cookies and punch just like any event you would go to, I thought it was funny. The napkins were freakin sweet though, with the crest on them and everything.

I think that George knows what a difference that small talk to people makes in their lives, and that stretching out kindness for a time after just puts the icing on the cake. I think that he is a great man who like anyone, makes mistakes. He is extremely personable and kindhearted. It is something that I will forever remember, even though I was too young to thoroughly appreciate it at the time. Fantastic overall experience.

I also have met Papa Roach when he came to Grand Island. And Brian Vickers at Daytona, because my uncle counsels a number of NASCAR drivers. And Kevin Blue of Internet Income University. He's filthy wealthy and still devotes constant time and effort to communicating with his members personally. How many millionaires do you have in your cell phone? Join IIU and you can get to know him just like I do.

Does Herby Husker count? Also I swear they had the real Santa at the mall I was at when I was 7. He was legit.

Oh yeah- and two of my kids worked with H from Steps for a week - not sure if he really counts as famous.
Also my eldest daughter met Stephen Daldry and the three current Billies from Billy Elliot when she was in 'Billy' in the West End for one night last year as part of the Billy Elliot Youth project. They might only count as famous in the UK though. Still, it was one of the proudest moments of my life and I never tire of mentioning it wherever possible.

Wow! Some Warriors have met some seriously famous peeps!

I got to meet and hugged Robin Zander (lead singer of Cheap Trick). They opened up for Heart. We did not get to meet the Wilson sisters.

My friend was picking out hair products at her local salon. Next thing she knows Steven Tyler is standing next to her and chimes in on how his wife love this and that product...

I will have to come back and see what other famous people turn up here

    Iggy Pop
    Mick Jagger
    The Ramones
    The Damned
    Lou Reed

    and many obscure punk/garage bands

ZZ-Top played at a friends backyard barbecue when I was growing up in Texas. This was before they made it big. At the time I was more interested in my friend's sister and paid no mind to the geezers with the long beards. I still kick myself over that.

I met Gene Hackman while we were both checking into the same hotel. The poor girl checking him in was so star struck that she almost couldn't get the task done.

I met Lloyd Bridges (Beau and Jeff's dad and the star of the TV show, "Sea Hunt") at a dinner in Germany in the 1970s. He was very nice and was happy to answer questions about working on the show that I'm sure he had been asked a million times before.

I met first lady Nancy Reagan, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and several members of the cast of "The Facts of Life" TV show at the World's Fair in New Orleans in the 1980s. I was the supervisor in charge of the game room at the fair and it was funny how uncomfortable both Nancy and Henry obviously felt in that setting. I don't think either one of them had ever been in an arcade before.

As a child I shook (soon to be) President Kennedy's hand at a campaign stop he made in my hometown and he even patted me on the head. I remember that like it happened yesterday even though it was more than 50 years ago.

I had two other thrills in Germany that didn't really involve meeting famous people but came close.

I passed right by "Smokin' Joe" Frasier a few years after he lost his heavyweight boxing championship. He was getting off a plane and I was waiting to get on.

I saw the group Abba perform at a military club in Weisbaden, Germany before they became famous (at least in the U.S.). It was a small club and there were less that 20 people there for the performance. I remember thinking that they were way too good to be the headliners at such a small club. They changed from one amazing set of outfits to another for just about every song. My seat was about 10 feet from the stage. Unforgettable! A few months later I saw them win some huge European singers contest on German TV and shortly thereafter the hits that came one after another drove them to worldwide fame!

    Let's see...

    • Actor Lloyd Bochner
    • Singer David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat & Tears) - he lived and hung out with us before he became famous. It was amusing then to see him strutting around with sunglasses, watching his early performances at our local dance hall... and then, there he was - a Star! Ya just never know.
    • The UFO Guy - Norman (?) Friedman. He's often referenced and interviewed because he did such extensive research on UFOs and the huge cover-ups. In fact, I interviewed him for my college newspaper when he dropped in for a presentation.
    • Shook Roy Rogers' hand when he performed in Toronto Exhibition Stadium back in the '50s
    • Alyn McCauley (hockey player). Interviewed him several times when he was scouted in Junior B - at that time, he was playing one level ahead of his age. Not sure if he's so famous today. Last I heard he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. I have his hockey card from those early days.

I met Soupy Sales at a local Rondo Music store many years ago. What he
was doing at a music store is beyond me, but it was cool meeting him.

While this doesn't count as "meeting" somebody, many years ago when I was
a kid, I went to a restaurant in Hillside, NJ and Phil Rizzuto was eating about
two tables away from us. I hear he comes from Hillside so I guess it wasn't
      a stretch seeing him there.

Also, when I went to a Met game once, I saw Lindsey Nelson walking down
      one of the runways.

I was personal friends with the guy who discovered Russell and Levin (the
writers for Tony Orlando and Dawn and the Partridge family) but I guess
that doesn't count for much. LOL. His name was Walter Gollander.

I also met the guy who discovered Bon Jovi and was even at his home. His
      name was Steve Zuckerman.

So all in all, I haven't really had an eventful life as far as meeting famous
      people.

      Maybe it's just as well.
