"Western countries have designed plans to cause drought in certain areas of the world, including Iran," Mr Ahmadinejad said in the city of Arak in Markazi province.

"According to reports on climate, whose accuracy has been verified, European countries are using special equipment to force clouds to dump" their water on their continent, he said.

By doing so, "they prevent rain clouds from reaching regional countries, including Iran," Mr Ahmadinejad charged.

That must have been slightly embarrassing

If President Ahmadinejad wants rain, I'll sell him some. There's more than enough here without needing to steal it from Iran; you see, he's right: We do have "special equipment" that forces clouds to dump billions of tonnes of water vapour from the Atlantic before it continues east.

    It's called land.

If he wants to live somewhere where it rains, he can surely move a like a thousand miles East. I'm sure he'd love the monsoons in Indochina. He sounds like every other crockpot dictator ever. I always find what they say amusing, yet taken with a grain of salt.

Many of the disputes over land in the middle east actually concern water and aquifers.

Outsiders don't realize this, I guess it sounds more exciting for the media to blame things on religion and global politics when in fact people are squabbling and killing each other over access to water.

Well claiming that the Devil, hated, dreaded West is somehow scheming and using subterfuge to somehow keep water out of his country by stopping the rain isn't helping. Sounds like a story from the entertainment tabloids.

Thinking that we CAN'T control weather makes me go hmm, for Haarp alone is very capable to heat up areas which "could" indirectly control pressure zones which therefore could steer clouds, in theory anyhoo.
