Dropbox: A must have. Not only for the backup capabilities, but for syncing a lot of data within various other apps.

DocsToGo Pro: Great for word processing. Also handles spreadsheets, but I don't mess with them much.

Dragon Dictation: You talk, it types. And gets it right way more often than not. Only challenge is that it needs to have a connection to pass the data to a server for transcription. WiFi is better than 3G for this.

FastKeyboard: Cool, simple little text editor.

CodeBook: Encrypted notebook. Very nice for keeping passwords and the like safe from prying eyes if you lose or loan the thing.

I recommend some extra hardware. Cheap(ish) is a Targus capacitive stylus. At $20, it's more expensive than the competition, but it's the best feel of any I've tried.

The Zagg keyboard/case by Logitech is sweet. Best $100 you'll spend on iPad gear after the cost of the tablet itself.

Paul, can you give me more info on this? I just got a touch screen but need a stylus. Just using my fingers right now!

It looks and feels like a pen. They all have plastic tips, kind of rubbery. The majority of the ones I tried took too much pressure to feel natural, or had sketchy "action" on the screen. The Targus is just smooth and easy to use. Very natural and consistent.

Based on the construction, it ought to be a $4 item. I expect it will be once the market is large enough. The rest I've tried are just worthless junk.

BTW... It works nicely on my phone, too.

BTW I had a coworker from CHINA! We stayed like a mile away from an Apple store. They sold TWO IPAD2s! A LOCKED one, that didn't sell well, and an UNLOCKED one that sold in like HOURS. He tried to BUY one of the UNLOCKED ones! They were OUT! He tried to pay to have one HELD, they said FORGET IT! He had TWO CHOICES!

    1. Stay at the store until it opened, and try to purchase THEN! Apparently, MANY took that option!
    2. Order online and WAIT! He ordered ONLINE, and waited like 3 WEEKS! I had him check to see why it took so long. It was coming FROM CHINA!

BTW when he got it, he LOVED IT! Weeks later, he STILL loved it.

Which options do you want? There's 16, 32 and 64 gigs. There's WiFi and WiFi with 3G.

I have the 32 gig set-up, with AT&T 3G. The Sprint 3G may seem faster right now, but AT&T has more room to expand their 3G network, and better coverage in the areas I plan to be traveling. The AT&T broadband plan is about the middle of the road, price-wise.

My next toy will be the LG Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet when it comes out. That one looks sweet!

I have not heard great things about the Xoom. Haven't used one for more than a few minutes yet, so take that with an appropriate amount of salt, but it's not getting great reviews from my geek friends.

I almost bought a tablet a couple weeks ago, becuse it looked NICE at a great price. THEN I found the processor had a flaw that had ALREADY been fixed. The fixed problem DOUBLED the speed in some areas. I decided to wait. 8-( Anyway, check out the CPUs! Some are underpowered a bit, and they may not shut down processes properly so, over time, performance may degrade. That isn't as bad with faster processors. In researching this, I found that nvidia is soon coming out with a FAR faster processor! About 3 times as fast. Apparently designers have had test chips for like 9 months.

Awesome! I have the original Ipad1. One of my fav apps is "The Daily." It's basically a newspaper that you get every single day. It's pretty cool. Has video right in the articles and audio feeds. Basically, It's very interactive. Stories that you see on Yahoo, are sometimes from the daily, so it does have some credibility.
