Censorship and the Warrior Forums

This is the url from my browser window of a post I made earlier today giving a very sarcastic view of what passes for 'sales material' and a 'marketing email'.

The post was, admittedly, fascetious but it made my point in the most direct and unmistakable manner.

What a pity that it was arbitrarily deleted - I would have liked to see what the warriors are made of when it comes to defending the indefensible.

It seems that they are allowed to use such rubbish as I have parrodied - but are not allowed to comment on it or justify it.

Hardly the stance of a warrior?

  • The link is dead, artwebster. I agree with you though. Since users have become the moderators it seems that all they are good for is finding offense in what is being said - and anything that does not agree with their point of view offends them. Any discussion with any heat or meat is deleted.

There's a lot of trash on the market - always has been and always will be. As long as anyone can click on the net and build a business there will always be scammers, crooks, and just those who aren't able to create anything of real value. They will lose in the end and the rest will just keep right on doing what they do with brief intervals of listening to some tweak that can't write at a competent 7th grader's level crying about not getting their articles accepted by EA. The only thing that has changed is that the inept masses can now shut up those who notice. Guess if we aren't allowed to call a spade a spade no one will notice that a spade is a spade, LOL. The OT has just gotten slammed with censorship because a few couldn't handle that political discussions get hot either.

If we ignore the issues that cause discomfort to some, they will just go away doncha know, so don't worry. Deletion is much easier than education and action.

I would like to see if posts are being monitored by a self serving few who have appointed themselves the thought police here. I think it would be a good idea to show "posts reported" on the sidebar along with thanks and thanked. Would be interesting for sure.
  • Hi, Sal,

Since my post was a straight forward mockery of several sales emails, I can only assume that the writers of this trash recognised the source of my irritation was themselves and that they have a vested interest in ensuring that their market for these emails is protected so that they can continue to rip people off by rehashing and reselling them.

I did not realise that members could simply delete anything which did not fit into their idea of exploiting the forum and that the generally accepted principal of free speech is subject to repeal by closed and anonymous minds.

    • Well - that just means you didn't read the rules. The forum is member moderated. Don't know what you posted as I didn't read it but if it was just something making fun of IM practices - how useful was it?

This forum has nothing at all to do with "freedom of speech" - it's privately owned and the owner sets the rules. It's not a democracy and a deleted thread indicates several members thought the thread was in poor taste or unsuited to a marketing forum.

  • It takes more than one person reporting to get a post deleted, AW. I'm not sure how many exactly, but more than one.

Some people miss the art of parody and sarcasm, so don't be surprised when those posts get deleted. Your post may have been extremely useful in pointing out how not to do things - it's hard to judge if its not there to read. But there were those who wanted to get it off of there. Whether you were just ganged up on by the guilty who don't want to be faced down, or whether you actually slipped up with your approach will just have to remain a mystery. I'm sure you'll figure it out if you take an honest look at what you said. Then just relax either way - we've all had posts deleted, even when we had real moderators instead of possies of silencers.

    • Sal's right - we've all had posts deleted. Most of us just move on - and a few get bent out of shape (and some of them have been here quite a while).

It's just no biggie - I expect you may have listed the person's name or other identifier - which is a no-no.

And, yes, it is a dictatorship - and the dictator is an honest one with loads of patience - and he owns the joint. So we behave ourselves as guests here (most of the time).

Or we rant a bit - and then get over it.

  • I don't know which one to pick-absolutely terrified, I never listen to anyone else, or I expect the mods to protect me from them.
  • I cant choose any of those answers - they all suck

    • Shouldn't this post be in the "Suck" thread in the main forum?
  • I don't know who made up the responses for the poll but
    I didn't see a simple "NO" available.

  • Are we talking about Armageddon here, or just about you getting 1 of your 30 posts deleted by longtime members who might better understand what belongs on this board?

I will admit, you're an elegant crybaby. But a crybaby, is a crybaby.

    • Hi, John,

Pretences is spelt with an 's' and a 'c' unless you have adopted the American way of spelling, which I have not.

We are not talking about Armageddon here, simply the sheer waste of effort by forum members who see their posts deleted for no stated reason by no recorded moderator and my incredulity that this is allowed to happen.

Your comment about a crybaby is the sort of veiled insult that I would normally take offence at but, in view of the apparent level of resignation in these boards, I will accept that acknowledgement of my 'eloquence' (even though I only use the most basic English) ameliorates it.

As I said, I am obviously not Warrior Forum material. Nobody who feels arbitrary censorship is against the interest of the membership belongs here.

I would be as scathing if the post had belonged to somebody else - as members of other forums could attest.

Moderation does not equate to censorship except, apparently, in these boards.

  • Arbitrary - based on uninformed opinion or prejudice.

I did not read your deleted post so I have no idea what you said in it. But like it or not, your post, and you the poster, may be responsible for its deletion.

This is the whole point of my comment!

What would be a more convincing indication that I was wrong than several articulate rebuttals?

Doesn't a fearful 4 o'clock knock indicate that the censor is aware that the action taken is not worthy of merit? Are you not grown up enough to make your own decisions? Is the membership, here, some sort of mentally challenged cheer leader group?

In the middle ages a serf would tug his forelock and say 'Yes, sire' to any demand his lord and master made of him - even if it was to agree that he should give up his livelihood?

It seems the implacable censors/moderators of these boards carry the same weight of authority.
