According to the McDonald's Corporation, its famous Chicken McNuggets are made with ingredients including autolyzed yeast extract (which contain free glutamate, similar to MSG), sodium phosphates and sodium aluminum phosphate. But that's not the freaky part. According to McDonald's own website, Chicken McNuggets are also made with "hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness" and "Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent."

I don't eat McNuggets often, but I must say....that agent certainly works. I've never foamed once.

      LOL

Anyway, this doesn't surprise me. Fast food is almost always saturated with weird ingredients. It's frightening, to say the least.

      Hardly surprising

I am strictly a KFC McDonalds free zone as i find their advertising and employment policies as totally distasteful as their product.

      Jim,

Those things are made from the left over French fries. They were originally supposed to be called French McNuggets. The boys in marketing changed the name to Chicken McNuggets.

Man that diet girl railing on McD's looks pretty stout...I think she's been sneaking over to Burger King.

Seriously though...for something to last like that...tain't natural...no wonder I'm preserving so well...

Dimethylpolysiloxane is a liver toxin and should be banned in soaps. I believe it is in some countries, maybe not - but you don't want it in your soaps because it absorbs through your skin. To actually have it allowed in food for ingestion is absolutely insane.

I've been frying real chicken in real breading all my life and not once did foaming create a problem.

I think some people here must spend every day just digging up odd nuggets of semi-facts and looking at weird YT videos.

You drive through McDonald's and you buy something called a "mcnugget" that bears no resemblance to a chicken and is instantly ready to eat - and then you are surprised it might have "additives". You're kidding - right?

Perhaps when you use a yeast product in the breading - you need a defoamer due to what naturally happens to yeast (foaming) when it sits for more than a few minutes.

But - since I never eat McD's food - I'm not going to worry about it

Well, I am quite aware that most foods have additives these days. However, I was not so aware of the fact that they contain Dimethylpolysiloxane!

Good. I hate the foaming. I'm glad to find a place that serves nuggets that don't foam.

The anti foaming agent is to stop you from farting.

The first batches of nuggets caused chronic flatulence in consumers.

I don't go to McDonalds - the 'food' is crap and I dislike the effect their business has both globally and locally. I sometimes make chicken nuggets or burgers at home and funnily enough they taste like actual food.

I stopped eating McNuggets back in the 80's too but my kids love that crap. Luckily, they like my home made ACTUAL chicken nuggets I make. And I don't use the ultra large, steroid laced chicken either.

But before we throw McDonalds out with the bath water, keep in mind they are FAR from the only "processed foods" that contain similar (and worse) chemicals.

When I worked in the Pharma industry, one plant I worked at used to process xanthan gum (basically a thickener for all types of food - check out the label on the next half gallon container of ice cream you buy - or a candy bar). We processed it as a powder but when it gets wet it turns into a gel that is more slick than walking on ice.

Once in a while some would make it to the roof through the exhaust system - and when it got wet it would literally eat through the roofing adhesives causing leaks. We had to replace the entire roof.

    And we eat this stuff...

So, we have some choices... status quo (keep eating the convenient yet artificially produced foods), buy nothing but organic (which believe it or not is tough to do in some locations) or start growing your own foods...

Or some combination of these choices.
